I worked in a hardware store in the 80s near swords when Barney was building his house . He used to come to me to buy all the timber and building products. I remember well the Monday morning after he scored that memorable last minute equalizing goal against Cork at Croke pk in the all Ireland semi final in 83 he was the first customer in the door . It was such a buzz cos the dubs were back after being dormant for 4 years... within 10 minutes he was surrounded by people as his name n photo was all over the papers that morning... he was such a gentleman he had time for everybody ... the excitement that whole week in the build up to the replay in Cork was incredible. Afterwards he told me that occasion in Cork for the replay was his most memorable in football. I since have lived in Australia and now live in the US but in all the years and all the games I’ve been to in GAA n Soccer I still get goosebumps when I watch that goal v Cork at croke park... the release on the hill when that goal went in was like nothing I’ve ever experienced since... I was the owner of the famous “ Hill 16 on Tour “ flag which used to hang behind the hill and at lansdowne rd .. Thanks for the memories Barney 😊
