My friend, you may have just saved three Xbox Series X controllers that I have here at home. In your experience, have you noticed that these conductive films start to misbehave after getting dirty with say foods or drinks? I have a 7 year old and now all three of my controllers have d-pads that are malfunctioning to various degrees. I went and bought a brand new controller for Black Friday, told my kid that the new controller was ONLY for me to use, two weeks later I spilled coffee on the damn thing and almost cried because I knew I was going to have the same issue again. They seem to get ghost inputs or don’t register inputs on the d-pads. It makes it impossible to play games like Death Stranding or Cyberpunk. On my worst controller I disassembled it and cleaned every single component with isopropyl, but the d-pad function only marginally improved. What exactly is the function of this conductive film? I just assumed it was a protective cover that I shouldn’t remove and so I figured that was why I couldn’t get the d-pads to work properly again. Thankfully on my newer controller some iso cleaning did restore perfect functioning on all except the right d-pad button, the controller thinks that I’m holding that button longer than I actually am, but thankfully it hasn’t been an obstacle. From what I’m getting from your video, it sounds like removing the film, cleaning underneath the film, and then installing a brand new film would likely fix these issues? I had no idea, I was so confused about why cleaning the top of the film wasn’t helping!
@Tzirf5 күн бұрын
The purpose of the conductive film is to " electrically conduct" your input from pressing the button. In short without it the circuit board cannot detect your inputs. The main issue with the film is that it wears out from normal use and even faster from abuse or spills. If you spilled coffee, yes remove the film, clean the circuit board and replace it with a new one. Bear in mind that liquid spills can cause damage to the PCB so if doing that doesn't fix your problem you can assume there is further damage from the spill.

at 11:34 - you add flux/solder to a joint on the NAND-aid but don't connect it to the board where the trace was cut. Does this need to be connected? I looked at other pictures of this on forums and there isn't a clear picture if this is connected or not.
@Tzirf16 күн бұрын
Yes it needs to be connected with solder. This is clarified in the guide I wrote for installing the NAND-AID. Be sure not to put too much solder as you could bridge the trace you cut. I apologize, I didn't notice this error in the video. Nice find.
@turnofftheoverheadlight15 күн бұрын
@@Tzirf You're good. Context clues say to connect it since it was tinned and the bridge connects that point to others on the PCB. Your info helped me a bit and let me share for some others the steps I took to fix my Wii U (UDPIH -> recovery_menu, grab otp -> minute, backup slc -> install nand-aid -> MLCRestorer -> move files -> power it up). Thankfully, my blank screen didn't persist through the 'minute' menu so I didn't have to count menu option button presses.

You can do a blind install of ISFShax and it may fix the video output. Otherwise you would have to use Defuse. 6x power, 1x eject, wait a few seconds for the installer to load, then 3x Eject, 1x Power, 3x Eject. If successful the console should power off. Power it back on and see if you get the minute menu on screen.

Hey @tzirf, I'm wondering how you would explain the difference between ISFShax and DeFuse to be? Do they both use the minute interface? Can they both be used to rebuild an mlc? When should I be using one and not the other?
@TzirfАй бұрын
If you can install ISFShax on the console than you don't need defuse. Put simply defuse is the absolute last resort when all else fails to work. Out of dozens of consoles I have repaired I have only needed defuse for a single console that spontaneously stopped working and wouldn't boot back into the recovery menu.

You could try to add a capacitor across the output USB positive and negative lines. It could be, that the initial current draw of the keyboard is too high for the Picos PMIC to handle and it therefore drags the Picos signal reference voltage down just a little too low.
@TzirfАй бұрын
You are correct that could solve the problem. I probably won't do it though as its the only keyboard I tested that caused that issue. I showcased it just in case someone else comes across the same problem.

2GB cards also work. smaller usally also works. The important thing is, that it is not SDHC (so 2GB or smaller). 2GB is much more convinient for dumping both SLCs or rebuilding the mlc, which needs 1.1GB of titles. So far every 2GB card I tried worked.
@TzirfАй бұрын
Well that is good information to have. Thanks for sharing that. Unfortunately all the 2GB SD Cards I tried refused to work and yes they were not SDHC. I will have to get another one and give it another attempt.

@Tzirf2 ай бұрын
Also I want to clarify something. The USB Valve will never be a passthrough device. Meaning you cannot pass data through it to a computer. This would circumvent the entire purpose of the device. Its intended use case scenario is to intercept and notify the user using the screen that something strange is happening.

Use recovery menu to install ISFShax. Besides that dump the logs and post them on my website tzirf.com for review. Or refer to my guide and look through them to see if the eMMC is bad. There is no reason to guess at this when it can be verified/tested.

Lets test this to validate it. I have come across many battery holders online and have tested many of them to find that what you are saying is absolutely true. However its not true for all of them. Additionally there might be a proponent of poor installation that plays a role in whether or not a drop or bump of the game causes the battery to pop out.
