Kraus sang incredibly, but the whole master class context is kind of abusive. Once that poor student was headed the on wrong road physically and emotionally, Kraus made no effort to avoid the inevitable outcome, then rubbed in his own awesomeness. Have you ever tried to do something you’re usually fine at doing when someone important was watching and then found yourself fumbling? What if all your hopes rested on that moment? Teachers can put you at ease when that’s happening or not. We know the greats are great. No need to pull power trips with scared kids. 💔

They teach acting not singing

I had my training quite late in my life, with awesome friends, who taught me how to sing. Today, looking back at those years, I relive those embarrassing moments while training 😅 but the end result was só satisfying. I humbly think that good singers is dying out, because it is very hard work, constantly, and I personally think that young singers do not want to commit to such a dedication ❤

In the more closed intimate vocal conversations, Pavarotti, Caballe, and those of the years of Italian technique, spoke of the 'standing position of that vocal support for the breath, 'as if.' I will not state what came after the 'as if.' I was very surprised of their description to what occurs in their stance of their vocal stance positioning. However, when I have watched the GOLDEN AGE STARS, who were well vocally seasoned, I was mesmerized how their technique was not noticeable in their 'vocal support being relaxed with their amazing fiato/a, performing out how the expression of the 'drama is in the music.' Caballe is a lovely example and she knew music WELL!! The seasoned VOCAL training is the launching pad for the years to one's repertoire, but the seasoned performances of those Diva and Divo is all about their technique. The surprise, too, were/are those who did not know that the Bel Cantos was a born natural vocal placement for music line, so these repertoires waited to be a grand career. Though Sutherland was the sensation vocally, I found her to be vocally dull in many repertoire. Caballe just knocked one into heavenly dimensions that still amazes me. Pavarotti was the miracle tenor of the 'Regiment's 10 high C's' all crystal and all fun. Who knew he was not a skilkled read of music but his generous to the sound of voice is squillo in all those correct phrases and chilling. He, Caballe, Horne, Sutherland, Freni, Callas, Corelli KNEW what the breath support was for one's vocal technique, FIRST. Those masters are so many and missed...Bjoerling, Aragull, Carerras and on. Today, singers are NOT aware of their lack of knowledge to TRAIN a VOCAL TECHNIQUE required, as a pro-musicians and ballet dancers. Technique is learned and maintained for a success and great ride vocally.

Absolutely…release the voice through the throat. Activating throat traps the voice. That poor tenor who was trapped in his throat had the best example of a free voice with Maestro Alfredo Kraus… may he rest eternally in peace.

Great lessons, but I felt for the poor pupil of Kraus when he got the 'al trono vicino al sol', demonstrated in a fashion he'll never be able to sing himself....

This video demonstrates two things: 1. Great singers don’t make great teachers and; 2. Some students are referred to these masters classes when they don’t have the basic foundation, as in the Alfredo Kraus case. The young man didn’t even have his voice properly placed to try to sing the high, pianissimi notes or the video of Renata Tebaldi, but it’s interesting that Luciana Serra talks about that. What a disservice to any advance student who doesn’t get the chance. In any case you have those teachers who focus on technique while there are those who focus on interpretation.

Did you once hear a b a b y crying ???????? That's the way you have "to find back" for ""right"" singing. Corelli and his overtonevoice is a splendid example for right singing. Once asked how to sing "right" he said "Sometimes more b e h i n d sometimes less behind.". The voice will find one day the right way itself, when you find at the beginning under these thousand ways this only right way. Singing is a gift, singing is a wonder.

8:31 is the apex for me. The way this La Bumbry prepares. She hears it all before the glorious rapture she creates. On top of it all. Easy as pie for this gracious artist.

I just wonder if any of those young singers ever made it. When I was at the RCM learning with the great Edward Brooks I sang in a few master classes. And learned nothing. I was terrified and all I wanted to do was get out of there. Wolfgang Holzmair, Philip Langridge, Benno Scholum and Sarah Walker were the 2nd and 3rd rate singers I sang for (compared to the blazing genius of the great artists in this fine video). Watching Krauss showing off reminded me of how I felt. That Masterclasses could sometimes be hijacked by the "masters" and that the whole thing would end up being all about them. I really don't know if Masterclass is of any use to young singers. It's terrifying enough to sing for really truly great singers who appeared in this video never mind with an audience dissecting your every quaver. Opera singing is a precarious high wire act which requires ruthless determination, confidence, stamina, physical fitness and good mental health. I "ended up" singing for Scottish Opera Chorus and I'm still there and glad of it. I couldn't hack that lifestyle of the soloist. I just didn't want it enough in the end. Anyway thankyou to the editor. Just seeing the grace and power of La Bumbry was enthralling.

Krauss wasn't teaching an actual masterclass. That was a journalist not an upcoming singer.
@cm5071 Жыл бұрын
True, but I like actually the juxtaposition of good encouraging teachers (Bumbry, Tebaldi) and of intimidating ones. The latter might get applause, but don't get any results. (Kraus). With the first two you hear immediate differences
