why rasterize when you can convert to smart object? it gives you more option to work with, and it helps even when you're scaling stuffs it won't reduce size

Sometimes you need to rasterize, especially when you want to delete a part of it. And for pictures, you cannot use the Photoshop inbuilt background remover to remove backgrounds unless the layer is rasterized. After which you can bring it back to smart object.
