I love these. Especially the one with the balloons. There are two things I like to do to make hangman more engaging. One is I usually ask them something when they get a correct letter. Like, what's the past simple/ past participle of a verb, or have them translate a word or phrase from their native language. If they answer correctly, I put the letter up, but if they don't, I draw a line. The other one is, have three or four students race at the board. They each choose a word, and the rest of the class guess letters. Everyone writes letters at the same time, but instead of drawing the hangman, they just lose if their word gets complete. You should use this last one carefully though, but if they're OK about losing in front of the class, then it can be really fun.

thank you so much for your comments on the image of hangman. I love the idea of the game but struggled with using it as a tool for teaching for the exact reasons you described. Instead, I just draw balloons and pop one until they are all gone or the students guess the words. Again, thank you!

Martin You are just introducing words but no meanings, therefore it's not really vocabulary. Students are not learning the meanings or how to use the words in communication .🤔

It’s just a 1 minute activity to get a class of 5 year olds to repeat a bunch of new words like “frog”. Even at that age they can understand the concept of a frog by seeing a picture of it.

But I have some monsters in my class which rubber the points on the board. I just rubber 1 point from their group & suddenly they start to beg to give back the point, but after mins again, they do it again. On my nerves.

This idea was amazing. I had some guys who cry through games even. Why? Because they were losing & I couldn't do anything. But these ideas were fun.
