The lock button enables you to fine tune a screw to manually tighten the last half turn in something delicate. I love that you're teaching your toddler how to use real tools, my children very many years ago, had to manage with plastic toy ones that did/undid big plastic screws/bolts, ultimately unsatisfying. If these had been around back then, they'd have loved them :). Now adult, they have fine collections of real tools, and my daughter loves her DeWalt drill...

This is appears to be about 11 years too late, so most probably slightly out of date, but what type of hot glue gun are you using? My DT teacher uses your tutorials on model making in her class, but when were practising with the school glue guns my work always turns out to be messy. I would like to suggest the school gets some better glue guns, if there are any that you could recommend?

Thank you so much for this side by side comparison!! For me this has pushed me to the pen I'm a diorama builder and those smaller house kits etc The chord of my offbrand gluegun has always bothered me + too much glue at once So the pen is great Especially with the 15s warmup, I'd just switch it off in between glue moments
@JudePullen5 ай бұрын
Thanks! Just curious do you find the newer mini pen glue sticks have lower adhesive properties? Perhaps I had some bad batches but for me they were never as good as the old pen.

We are having extreme heat this week and I have learned a lot! You need more ventilation in these boxes very badly. There should be long slits on top side walls under roof overhang or holes, there should also be holes in the bottom four corners of floor to provide drainage and more ventilation. No perches should be on box either. Thanks for your video
@JudePullen6 ай бұрын
Hi Brenda - your timing is impeccable, I'm literally writing up a V2.0 - thankyou! I will try and incorporate your suggestions. Although I have made it larger, which I think will be beneficial also. (Spoiler - just had mine fledged).

@@JudePullen 👍🏼 my 10 day old bb nestlings are struggling with our high heat temps now, I added more ventilation holes, heat shields on roof and side plus just put an umbrella over box to help shade it better. My biggest fear is removing my wren guard right now for fear the wren comes back and kills the nestlings. I unfortunately saw it happen to someone else’s bb nestlings. I’m going to wait a few more days so it’s closer to fledge time. I do love your designs!

Many birds that use bird boxes, like bluebirds would not appreciate the perch on the front of the box. They land with their body against the front under the entrance.

You may be able to get it smoother if before you cut it you put a little water in it at slowly heat it up, I do this with pet bottles for making 3D printer filament. The water turns to steam and creates pressure in the bottle and the heat lets it smooth out any harder corners. Be careful though

You've reached another Designer. Although ar the moment I work on Re-cyclable plasic beer keggs(!) previously at Apeks Scuba Diving we always tried to find dissassembly methods or modular seperable components. Its down to incentives required from the government to give tax incentives for using re-cycled materials, cheaper supply incentives and more information available to Supply chain departments and buyers within companies.

Thanks Mark! Certainly agree it's a multi-faceted approach!

Good result! I think the reason people don't try is in modern times people just don't have time to even think in these terms. Manufacturing companies need to make steps towards a free return for re-manudacturing. Great vid...I think an interview with players in the automotive industry and mobile phones would profer some useful insights

Apparently Brits on average watch just over 4 hours of TV/Streaming per day. So I'm not sure the 'time' argument actually holds. I know that is what people say, but I think the reason for feeling 'time poor' is more complex. I wonder if a parallel is like exercise - it's an effort, but arguably we're better for it, be it a walk in the park or a gym workout...perhaps it's fixing a simple thing, or a complex thing. I worked at Sugru for 3 years and we did quite extensive research with a 3rd party, and 'getting over your first fix/repair' was the biggest barrier - once there, people often 'got the bug' and did more. Hope that's helpful rather than preachy, but just saying I try to see repair as less of a chore and more of an opportunity...
