That wick is totally wrong and messed up. It needs to be very properly trimmed.

Trim the top of the wick with very sharp scissors to get a clean burning edge. Fuzzy edges make for a bad flame.

Do you have to have dedicated scissors for the wick trimming? Would not want dirty my scissors and/or kitchen brush in toxic lamp oil.

👍👍👍 Well done on your first posting .. and may your Trangia give you much pleasure 😊. A tip, if I may please? Cut a circular piece of heat-resistant silicon mat to fit snugly inside the pan. This will afford additional protection for the pan non-stick surface during storage and can also be used to set down hot pans on 'heat-sensitive' surfaces. Yep, no pepper .. a 'rookie' mistake usually not repeated 😏.

Is it possible with these lanterns to turn the burning wick down into the fuel tank and set it on fire?
@waynegriffiths5143 Жыл бұрын
Absolutely no chance of that happening, in fact to extinguish it you need to turn down the wick.

Hi. For a clean burning operation you needed to do two things first. First trim the wick level or with a slight curve, ie. Trim corners so that any stray threads are removed. Then soak the whole wick by dipping it into the fuel before threading in the wick holder or after threading in place wait for the fuel to permeate up the wick to the top of the wick, maybe about 10 to 20 minutes. No smoking will occur then. If smoking occurs wind the wick down as low as possible and let it burn in for several minutes. Smoking will cause lamp black occurring on the inside of the glass. It is easy to clean off when cool. I love these machines.

I'm glad you mentioned "curve" trimming the wick, most people don't.

Are you using isopropyl alcohol? The stoves take either denatured alcohol or heet in the yellow bottle. I suggest heet, it’s widely available and works great. It doesn’t leave soot at all.
@thebackyardcamper12682 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. It was denatured…Kleen Strip-Green denatured alcohol. An eco friendly clean version of their regular denatured alcohol.
