Like Cox, but it is a leap to suggest that if we are the only manifestation of life, we must protect it. One of the fundamental properties of life is death.

Does anybody ever wonder if the creation of the universe could've been set into motion by the life within it? Like an infinte loop since the start of universe is outside of what we perceive as time. 😂

Life is the most important phenomenon in the universe? As decided by what? Well, life, of course. We have decided that we are the most important thing in existence, what a surprise. Have we ever stopped to consider that life is not the most important, and that in fact nothing is more important than any other thing? Each photon, each quark, the most inert and unnoticeable matter hurtling away from the edge of the universe, they’re all equally as important.

I was wondering reading this book why people didn’t build a giant light array (probably in space) that emitted the light signature of carbon dioxide. Then you could capture the space mold, stop them from multiplying and have infinite energy to power the array (plus anything else you wanted). Pretty far fetched, I know, but they did tarmac over the god damn Sahara in the book

I listened to another podcast where Andy talked about the movie. And he mentioned Ryan Gosling, and Lord and Miller and Drew Godard. That was 3 years ago. I just checked imdb. It's listed as a 2026 movie, in production right now. That's 5 years or so. Man. I really hope this doesn't fall apart. It just feels like such a dream team for this story.

Thank you! So tired of physicists saying this and that is true, when what they mean is that their math calculated this or that, from string theory to quantum fields to multiverse ... Makes it really hard to have real conversations with people when "so-and-so says X is real", and because they have bonafides or - worse! - charisma, people believe them. Nuts! This is what I love the most with Sabine; cut the gobbledygook, get real, tell us the data without the bananas interpretations!

Re Contact, considering the strength of the signal is inversely proportional to d^2, after a year d is about 1 lightyear. Comparing the signal strength at 1m vs 1lightyear... A lightyear is about 10^16m. So the change in signal is 10^-32. This is pretty hard to detect, even if you know exactly what direction it's coming from, and you aim a radio telescope directly at it. If you aren't already looking in that direction it's far below the strength of other closer sources.

I hate audiobooks (add won’t let me be great) but I was so invested I got the audiobook to pick up where I left off when I couldn’t physically read and WOW! Give that narrator a damn medal. Best audiobook ever, first time I could say it made it better.
