I'm on the extreme with a monthly power bill of ~$1400 a month from BOINC , world community grid project. Small form factor machines

I'm able to play bf 2042 and two 4k 3 hour movies back to back also two ooen tabs. Have no problems. But if with the Ubisoft and the rest everything starts to lag.

The problem with doing a BOINC analysis is that the crunchers that contribute are not all the same. For instance if an end project were to built a 4 node server, with each node having say dual 64c EPYC 7003, and max 4TB memory (say for CPDN), and maybe 4x 3.4TB NVME U.2 drives, then that would cost them $100K+. Yet we can build these systems for BOINC for around $30K. The reason we (and other BOINC contributors) can do this is because we can utilise supply chains that Academia cannot. If they tried to build a HPC cluster using everything new, but then tried to buy and use Google's 6-month ago CPUs, via middle men like we do, then ATOS (etc) and other providers would refuse to build the cluster and/or AMD would terminate their partnerships. Another completely separate argument of why high end crunchers actually offer far more than Academia, is the fact that new versions (EPYC, Xeon, Ryzen, etc) generally offer an IPC uplift of up to 30%. And yet most Academic data centers have a refresh cycle of 3-5 years, where as most high end crunchers would upgrade far quicker than this (maybe 12-18 months).

The GPU is 10 times more performant than your CPU. So using the GPU is more efficient in regards to power useage. I use the daytime while the solar array is producing, to donate my PC for science. Cost effective, more or less enviormentally friendly.

Only 128GB RAM? Aren't you worried about bottlenecking your GTX 750 Ti? A good gaming setup requires at least 256GB these days.

Yes, right at the point of cost today. However, if this concept becomes more and more sophisticated and there will be a tremendous number of personal computers. We can build up some extra super computers by doing this. And today's computer is really an over kill for typing documents and watching movies and etc. This would be a new use of PlayStation's and TVs join the project to solve many things. I see the other side. In short, we could potentially have a hundred more supercomputers instantly.
