Loved Los Tanimals! With US layouts representing Class I railroads, I always want to count the wagons in a long freight 'consist'. To my mind, there's always something inerently wrong about a humongous Mallet or array of coupled diesels hauling less wagons than you might see on a Ffesterbahn gravity slate working! Those wee layouts which demonstrate how little space a layout *can* occupy really ruin so many excuses for not doing anything!!

@@TheHoveHeretic Thank you - comments are always nice to receive. I did film the entire long freight train journey as it did look impressive, but looking at the clip in my video editor I decided it took up too much time and was just a little lacking in interest, so I cut it short. The show was certainly one of variety.

Essex Brick?? What's the point people go to exhibitions to see "moving trains" not something going 18" on a computerized shuttle

Thank you for the comment. The exhibition layouts are as diverse as the exhibitors and the visitors so I hope there was plenty here that you did enjoy and thank you for watching.

Perhaps you might let us know what you've exhibited? The computerised control system is one feature of the layout and one which serves as inspiration .... i.e. one key reason to stage exhibitions in the first place. Several folk build layouts which Zaphod Beeblebrox couldn't *fully* operate alone. Computerising operation of layout with a working interlocked signalling system, coupled with existing DCC control arrangements opens up a plethora of opportunities.

A very good question. It has been a very long time since I exhibited, and that was with a club layout in my school days. In short, my current layout is not exhibition standard. Very little is permanently glued down as I like to tinker and try different approaches to modelling to increase my skill level. Everything is on one 6 1/2 by 4 foot low density modelling board with cross bracing underneath so moving it would be tricky. My current layout is reasonably simple, however I have yet to add point motors and a DCC accessory controller. Although I have been running DCC for some years I have a long way to go to get more than a few of my locos chipped and I am considering switching to Hornbys HM7000 bluetooth chips for future upgrades or at least chips that support ABC as this makes time based control (rather than block detection) so much easier as it gives you a buffer window to get a loco into the exact correct space.

Did you have to have that music? Much prefer the sounds oof a show.
@ProfPtarmigan18 күн бұрын
Sorry for that. Some people prefer not to listen to background chatter so I put the music in. Personally I don't mind either way but think that for longer KZbin clips music might have the advantage of background noise, whereas for short clips, say 10 minutes or less, then background it is. Would a more upbeat style of music (i.e. chart based) be preferable to the relaxed style of the music I used or is background noise preferable all the way? Or maybe have the background noise dominant with an undertone of music? Thank you for commenting, all feedback is useful, and I will make some change for the next show I put up to see what comments I get.

@@ProfPtarmigan Personally I prefer the background noise and the sound of the layouts. Plus the craic. Just a matter of preference. You could always put out one of each!
