I interpret the character trait of data supposedly having no emotions as an expression of the struggle many have with ignorance and intolerance of atypical emotional expression and alternative emotional experience, often interpreted as a lack of emotion altogether. his physical construction, as well as the mechanism of his brain, are crafted to parallel human beings, but he can never be precisely human. I interpret His attempts throughout the series to experience and identify with humanity as a metaphor for the struggle to exist in a Neurotypical world, and how, regardless of how enlightened society becomes to neurodivergent individuals, they will struggle against the misunderstanding of others and with the reality that survival is contingent upon an extent of social integration that is difficult to cultivate and sustain. Research has found that spectrum individuals identify at a higher rate with characters from fiction who are anthropomorphic, since such characters may possess or lack any given human qualities that they might also struggle to understand or experience. I appreciate the theme that the limitations data faces are not material, but rather the result of incompatibility with his social environment; aside from his tactlessness and inherent otherness, he is superhuman in every respect. This parallels the experience of isolation by neurodivergent individuals who might possess extraordinary talent but are impeded by difficult difficulties with social integration.

Well, we autistic people are not a monolith, so of course its okay to end up with an opinion the majority of us does not share. I think the biggest issue with him is not hardly anybody relating to him anyway, but that neurotypicals seem to think all autistic people are like that when in reality, close to none are like that.

I love the characters from The Owl House, I'm an AuDHDer and Luz Noceda, the main character in the show actually showed so much resemblance with me, which actually having a part in my evidence to show when I got my medical and canonical diagnosis. I love it when I spot a character on screen and instantly go "Oh, you're like me!" It's like that one spiderman moment, you know. It makes me feel genuinely connected with the character and I absolutely love it when it happens.

Have you listened to “Ordinary” by Joriah Kwamé? He wrote the song specifically for Luz’s character since so many people connected his song “Little Miss Perfect” to Amity. I relate a lot to the song (and to Luz since I’m AuDHD as well), so maybe you’d like it too!

getting in early to say donnie from rottmnt (2018 tmnt) is amazing, there's a few videos about it if you wanna check it out, otherwise the movie is quite accessible and worth a watch! unfortunately the movie is moreso a summary of his character arc about accepting change but still shows many autistic traits such as sensory issues and low empathy :)

A character I've personally always related to as an autistic person was Deku from MHA. Namely, the detail that he's extremely good and smart about what he's specifically interested in, but not as much at everything else. He's not insanely smart at literally everything ever, he's *just* insanely smart about his special interest, superheroes, and for someone who always felt stupid for struggling with schoolwork because it wasn't related to anything I was interested in, seeing him infodump made me feel really seen.

Entrapta and Hordak's relationship was the most pure and authentic display of love in this entire series. Season 5 dropped the ball for She Ra as a whole but, even though Hordak didn't getting the redemption arc he deserved (why the hell did Wrong Hordak exist at all?), he and Entrapta have the kind of bond that will endure the test of time. That's such a rare thing, especially in the modern day where narcissism rules the world, which is why people must cherish it.
@Hyzentley
@Hyzentley 9 ай бұрын
Totally agree. Yeah, season 5 was... less than great, to put it politely, but Entrapta and Hordaks arc still works. I think Wrong Hordak could have worked really great - had they given actual Hordak any scenes instead of letting Catra take over his trauma and arc for cheap sympathy points. But yeah, their love is so deep and pure, and its so rare to see in a fictional couple

I recently decided to revisit the fandom tags hoping that the time past would mellow out the worst of it and that newer fans that weren't around for the worst of it might have added something positive but was extremely disappointed to see that the hate was very much alive. I loved SPOP and recently getting into a new show with amazing characters that reminded me of Entrapta and Hordak really got me excited to reconnect with any fans that might have been left. It sucks how something that can be so good is so easily poisoned by hatred and bigotry in fan spaces.

I am scared of humans so "monsters" feel safer than neurotypical people. I have never been abused/almost unalived by a "monster" but I have been by neurotypicals. Even my own sister, unkle and grandma didn't stand up for me when I was called names right in front of them, having someone strong stand up for me while ignoring the social norms that say not to, would make me happy. (Btw. it feels like many in the furry fandom are into strong wolf-men because they would like to be protected against homophobes)

Thank you for this video, I am 152cm (5ft) tall and autistic, people treat me like a child very often even though I am 23yo. Leaving my place feels scary because people think that because of me looking like an overweight child they were in the right to call me names and stare at me (I often times feel as if I was Constance from the movie "Monster House" from 2006 because of them). I relate to Entrapta a lot regarding people not trying to understand me and I think Hordak is a great partner for her (I am kind of envious), being seen as an equal the way he sees her would be nice.

I remeber watching a She Ra reaction just cos I needed more Entrapdak content (very desperate I know lol), and when Hordak's frail body was revealed all the reactor said was "ewwwww" which just broke my heart. I already LOVE The Shape of Water so Entrapdak had me quaking in my sandals 😂 I adore how both Elisa and Charlie are mute and communicate through SL! Although we don't know if she gains the ability to speak Charlie's native tongue after her gills are formed, the essence of her character is still there! If she does learn Charlie's language, she and him are still the only ppl left alive who can speak it, effectivly bonding them further. However, at the same time Eliza doesn't need to speak to have Charlie hear her because they already found a methode of communication that is special to them. I see the same thing in Entrapdak, although a little differently; Hordak might be older than Entrapta but Entrapta has experienced life longer. Hordak has never asked himself what he wants to do with his life because of trauma, while Entrapta being autistic has always asked herself if what she wants in life is even available to her. They both show each other that they deserve to want things and that sentiment is the glue that will hold this ship together tighter than others. The big reason why I feel nothing towards Catradora (Which I was even confused by cos on the surface Catra x Adora ticks all the boxes that my other OTP Sayaka x Kyoko ticks) is because I don't know/can't see what they want once they get together... With Hordak and Entrapta it is abundantly clear; they want to be Lab Partners, selling their creations for money to inflate their budget and make EVEN MORE scientific discoveries 😂😂😂 until the end and support each other in their insecurities about their body or neudivergency. I guess part of the appeal Entrapta has over Catradora is the 'monster' aspect, truthfully, a part of me likes that no one will truely understand Hordak and Entrapta lol
@Hyzentley
@Hyzentley Жыл бұрын
I love that his fanon name is Charlie! And yeah, totally agree about Entrapdak, Entrapta is definitely the more experienced one. Their arc is so amazing and healing. Also same about Catradora, not just the way its written and the abuse tropes do not work for me, it also feels... kind of superficial? Which is surprising for me, because wlw enemies to lovers is one of my favorite tropes. "The monster aspect, the part of them that truly nobody but them understands" that is such a good way of putting it, and very relateable as a disabled person. Sorry for taking so long to answer, love how detailed your ask is but I needed to bring up the spoons to answer

FYI, "levels" of functioning were used by the nazis to determine whether or not they should kill a neurodivergent person. It's disheartening that we still use this language, despite it not being outwardly offensive, like the term "degenerate" as well. If our society doesn't support their ideas, we shouldn't use their rhetoric. But then again, our modern society generally looks at other marginalized groups and says "everyone is equal", then looks at disabled people and says "but...". And it makes it all the more ironic when people deny the existence and impact of ableism while using words such as "dumb", "stupid", "idiot", "crazy", "insane", "lunatic", etc. as derogatory. And advocate for the institutionalization of homeless people or poor people, or re-institutionalization of disabled people, and especially mentally ill people. It's been normalized, since it's so prevalent.
