Just finished this on Netflix. What a tragic end to a promising life. I think the biggest mistake Major made was being unable to understand the local politics and undermining the culture, traditions and beliefs of his people. He trusted those who wanted to bring about his demise and fell into a pit when everything around him collapsed. I don't blame him though. He was exiled from his homeland and grew away from it so he doesn't understand or resonate with its culture and customs which offended his people.
