Really easier just to get two domes from an art store or cheap small school globe. Only hard part is the dish but if you can tackle this the dish is nothing.

Just saw this. Let me get your professional option. I just completed a diorama of a Jurassic Park scene with Dennis in his jeep getting ambushed complete with waterfalls over the small cliff. After watching your rain video I thought how would it be possible to create a physical rain scene. Is it crazy to think one could create a still rain scene pouring layer by layer resin over randomly spaced water drops? Even if this were possible I think the drops would end up being too big in scale and one might have to instead use some very small clear plastic beads. Your thoughts?
@KathyMillatt7 күн бұрын
I think scale is the biggest problem I hit. The droplets have to be oversized to show. I’ve had so many suggestions over the years but most would only work in a larger scale unfortunately.

How long did it take you to learn enough Blender to design something for printing?
@KathyMillatt9 күн бұрын
Good question! To design something, not long. To design what I do now for Kickstarters, I’m still learning but I’ve been using Blender now for 5-6 years.

Going to put this on while I do some hobbying. I bounced off ZBrush due to its sheer density but am really, really enjoying Nomad Sculpt on iPad. It's surprisingly capable, even for hard surface stuff. I'll give that/Blender and Fusion another go though I reckon. FDM has always turned me off with the layer lines but I'm seriously impressed with the Bambu stuff... The volume and cost of printing terrain in resin is eye-watering but I'm starting to pressure cast parts for a garage model kit and may print some modular tile masters in resin, then cast as many as I need in cheaper 2 part resin 🤔 Edit: Just finished! That was an excellent primer for people. Definitely recommend looking into Nomad Sculpt. Not as powerful as ZBrush or Blender but it just gels with how my brain works. No subscription model and it's only about £20. Problem is, you need a meaty iPad and that can be a big investment cash wise so swings and roundabouts. Definitely take a crack at that Thunderbirds model too. Off to see the Super Marionation exhibit next month!
@KathyMillatt16 күн бұрын
I don’t have an iPad, just a cost too far right now, but I hear great things about Plasticity too. Casting is a great way to make loads of the same thing like tiles. I just use 3D printers all the time so am used to a hefty filament bill!

@youdonotknowmyname9663Ай бұрын
You really need to change how you think about things to properly make use of 3d printing and 3d design. Your entire life you hear that custom made plastic things are not something that you can make at home (or even make at all, unless you have injection molding machinery and the machinery to create custom tooling for them) But the second you get a 3d printer and some 3d design software you suddenly CAN make custom plastic objects with very little effort. It takes a long time to "unlearn" the whole "no, you can't make that" and to teach yourself "yes, I CAN make that at home, in only a few hours". That was and still is the hardest part of 3D printing, at least for me. The "3d printing mindset".
@KathyMillattАй бұрын
That is so true but also the corollary - I printed a 3D wooden door for a project then made it out of wood. The real wood version looked way better! But now I have 3d printers - I do 3D print everything!
