Great! Now i can finally listen to the last minute of the song without feeling like im going to vomit! Yay! Seriously, did they really have to make the song pan back and forth really fast at that section of the song? I get its trippy and experimental, but it just makes me feel sick whenever i hear it

The Very best version. I think this was made at a time when Mono was the mix that producers concentrated on and Stereo was the new kid on the block, a fad even. So they just slapped the Stereo together with less care. Don't get me wrong, Stereo done properly is the one to go for every time.

I like both versions. The stereo one has a more washy subdued and mysterious vibe to it, it feels more like a vignette. This one feels more like a fleshed out track with everything audible and the weirdness of the composition and effects really become apparent. Both are good in their own way.

The black and green scarecrow as everyone knows Stood with a bird on his hat and straw everywhere He didn't care He stood in a field where barley grows His head did no thinking His arms didn't move except when the wind cut up Rough and mice ran around on the ground He stood in a field where barley grows The black and green scarecrow is sadder than me But now he's resigned to his fate 'Cause life's not unkind, he doesn't mind He stood in a field where barley grows

A sad story... Syd Barett was a talented, gifted young man... A real tragedy for the whole family... Pink Floyd ignored the problem, says Nick Mason... Syd's older brother was a doctor!!! They also repressed it!!! He said: Everything is fine... Nothing is fine... When he made his 2 solo albums, Syd Barett was a sick person... He was on the verge of schizophrenia... I'm interested in how he lived with his illness afterwards... Unfortunately there are no more books in Germany...

damn this is another one that sounds so much better in mono. i could never stand that stupid phaser garbage it does on the last riff of the stereo mix, plus with mono you get to hear so much more stuff

BRILLIANT! Much appreciation for the upload. As others have commented, THANK YOU for uploading this masterpiece in GLORIOUS MONO...as it was always intended to be experienced...and, in a level of sound quality that doesn't neuter the true majesty of the work or the experience

I like these mono mixes, they make it sound a much fresher experience. All those details which were missed, revealed. Though I do wonder about some of the sounds that don't quite work for me. It feels like there is a lot of phase cancellation going on in the reverb/echo department, perhaps as a by product of working from a stereo mix? The phasing going on in Flaming does not sound right to me. Interesting, but I'm not sure if it was meant to be sounding like flutter and wow. I think this is more accidental rather than by design. On some tracks Syd's guitar is either buried in echo (Interstellar Overdrive) or the echo is almost completely lost (Pow R Toc H). Was this really the album they heard in 1967 in mono, or someone more recent who's had the master tapes to play with? My favourite things that weren't in the stereo mix are the whoosh of a falling star in Astronomy Domine....it reminds me of the Clangers! It is even more spooky. Also hearing Rick Wright's organ on Interstellar Overdrive, parts that were buried.

I doubt YT is even showing my comments. So to be brief: this is a HUDGE and very worthwhile conversation. Some of the other mono versions on Floyd 2020 channel are quite authoritative. I'm exploring the issue. It seems well worthwhile to change all my MP3 Piper tracks to the mono tracks. But I have also noticed some of your points as well. I need to listen to them all with headphones (like back in the day-Astronomy Domine!). Lots of Floyd experts out there (not me), and maybe theywill continue to weigh in.

It's a shame that organ and the extra guitars aren't in the stereo mixes (I imagine there was some sort of technical difficult involved, considering this album was recorded with a 4-track machine, if I remember correctly?). This is gorgeous. Thanks for the uploads!

The stereo pot panning is so primitive, though, compared to the smooth kind of panning you’d hear on Hendrix’s second album “Axis: Bold as Love” a few months later. Pink Floyd had absolutely nothing to do with the stereo mix of “Piper”.

This album is both proto-prog and proto-punk, often in the same song. Pretty incredible achievement. Even later tracks like Scream Thy Last Scream and Vegetable Man are more disturbing and violent than lots of proper punk and it was ten years earlier than all that stuff. Syd was kind of a genius.
