I want to give my own take on this because I am a fan for much longer, a few years and I also like Hiyoko and have some strong feelings with the series in general. To be upfront, I like Hiyoko a lot, she isn't my favorite nor is close to being one but I like her and find her to be the most underrated characters in the entire franchise because I feel like people judge her too much and while I get it, it's unfair when compared to the other characters the fans really like. I also don't get why Hiyoko is disliked so much when there are so many other characters in the second game who are so mean like Fuyuhiko, Mahiru, Hajime, etc. and only Fuyuhiko got development out of all of them. When I learned about her backstory, I honestly feel for her a lot and she became one of the most relatable characters to me and honestly can be considered a very realistic character as not everyone reacts to situations like that with hope. And looking at how she acts in the main story, she honestly even isn't that bad even at her worst although admittedly that may just be me but come on, there's definitely worse characters out there and when she died, I got so mad because they just wasted a character like her that really didn't deserve the treatment and the arguments that go against this are ones that I disagree with. Like Fuyuhiko and Hiyoko being way too similar to keep both of them alive? So what? That doesn't mean anything especially since a, the franchise reused concepts even if redundant before and that never stopped anything and b, that doesn't work when there's so much laid for her to have such an amazing development. And the despair argument doesn't work because no one cared for her death, not with the cast nor with the people who worked on the game because she died for the sole reason of dying and her death wasn't even expanded upon outside of her dying for the double murder shtick they have on every 3rd chapter. She also is the only one that I would argue had a useless death unlike the other characters and is the only one which I don't like who lived and who died since for the 1st game, I actually really like who lived and I don't mind useless characters as long as you don't have too much of them and as long as they contribute to something even if it's atmosphere like Yasuhiro representing fear, as well as me honestly being fine with Taka dying since that part, I do think works for the despair aspect since we know what he's been through and yet he dies as well as him having the potential of development but never was planned to get it. Same thing with Ryoma, it works for despair because of his depressing motive video and him having the potential of development but never actually hint at it, hell even Angie I would argue is perfect to die in V3 because one, she didn't seem like the character that was made to develop since she would just stay loyal to Atua (hence, why I hate her), two being that her death wasn't pointless like how most people think it is, there's actually a reason since it fits with Korekiyo well since he wanted to kill girls for his sister and him not bothering with an easy kill for his own desires which is right in front of him would be weird. Third, her death was something i'm glad happened not because I hate her (especially since that reasoning is biased) but because her along with Tenko dying let Himiko undergo an amazing development and because of that and her being Hiyoko but better, she became one of my favorite characters in the entire series and showed how good Hiyoko could've been if she lived. But Hiyoko dying has no actual benefits in my eyes, it comes out of nowhere, it isn't cared enough for the argument of being used for despair and they set up such an amazing development for her yet don't pull through with it. That's why I hate Hiyoko dying and why out of every surviving cast, the second game is the only one I don't like. Honestly the second game does so much wrong that it easily becomes the only Danganronpa game that I don't like, even Ultra Despair Girls has enough charm for me to enjoy it

I find it funny that my reaction to 2-3 victims is the opposite of the norm, not really caring for Ibuki but massively disappointed with Hiyoko especially since on my run I just finished her last FTE before it happened. In general, I have stange luck with FTEs in danganronpa. I will pick two or thee people to focus on, one is a survivor and the other will be a victim and I always pick a new chapter victim afterwards.

These type of videos are dumb and extremely pointless because you're literally asking for the character to have plot armor because they have a character arc and/or beloved and want other characters to die instead because they're " bad " In an Essence, it doesn't matter if she died or not because Someone else would have died instead and you'd have people saying the exact same thing DR is a game where anyone can die at any point, you can't ask a character to not die because " they had character development!!! " As if that somehow can't be a thing for any character??? Any character can get development and in an Essence no character actually deserves to die because " they could've been better ", again people are just asking for plot armor in a series in which this doesn't work and don't want to admit that so they pretend they care about " mishandling of characters " when in reality they're sad a character they liked had died, again this can happen to any character Like what's the stopping the writers from developing sonya and making her more relevant to the plot ? Why would you kill her then ? Why would you kill anyone if any character can be " better " in a sense ?? Why shouldn't Sonya also get development ? Why should she die instead ? Why can't she also be a good character? And who " deserves " to die ? Again we're just asking for plot armor when it doesn't work because no matter what someone will die regardless of their character, it's the tragedy of this game and life in general also Angie wasn't there for " no reason " lmao did you Ignore the context of the chapter 3 ? Especially since korekiyo wanted to kill girls anyway so it didn't matter who he killed ? I'd also say people hang up too much on the : " um actually We never know the actual murder weapon for Hiyoko!! Bad writing!!! " As if these dummies are mentally challenged idiots who need to be told SUPER OBVIOUS AND IMPLIED information ?? Especially one that ultimately doesn't matter since we already know mikan is the culprit

this doesn’t have much to do with the analysis but you mentioned at one point that you've never seen someone put nagito, chiaki or hajime as potential chapter 3 victims. well I'm here to shake your world. obviously this would NEVER happen in a million years but it's a fun idea. so when you really think about it, mikan had 2 potential and very important victims right at her fingertips. the first being nagito, who was literally on the brink of death because of the disease, and the second being hajime, who mikan "attacked" in his sleep TWICE, once in his own cottage!! for nagito, it would have been very easy for her to blame his death on the despair disease, and no one would have been able to tell. jusy cut his medical supply and that's it. of course, in some way or another, his freak luck might have interfered, but there's no way of knowing how so I'm gonna ignore that. this murder choice could have also been personal in some way, since mikan remembered everything about being ultimate despair. maybe she'd know about his junko hand, and she'd get jealous that he managed to obtain something so "precious" from her beloved. also these two have an interesting dynamic to say the least, being pretty similar in how messed up they are. for hajime, she had every opportunity to kill him in his cottage and literally nobody would know because, 1) it would have happened in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep, therefore no alibis, and 2) absolutely no witnesses. she would also remember him as izuru, who junko really "loved" because of how useful he was, and that also could spark some jealousy. and there you have it, two of the smartest and most useful characters just gone. that would probably just be a bad ending for everyone tbh, as no one would be able to figure it out. it's definitely an interesting approach though. i probably used this as an excuse to rant, but i really liked the video!! I've always liked hiyoko because i just generally love asshole characters in fiction. they're not being mean to me so why should i care, right? even though canon failed her, at least there's fan works that build more into her character, so I'm content with it

I feel like Mikan killing Hiyoko after getting the despair disease would made a lot of sense and it would be really cool if Mikan snapped from her bullying and went for her as revenge, if they so desperately needed a double murder they shouldve made ibuki the accidental murder wittnes. She couldvew lived longer tho to have time to grieve Mahirus death and have some sort of Fuyuhiko type character development where she learns to open up to the others, maybe they couldve kept both Mikan and Hiyoko and killed her off in chapter 4 instead? where she gets stressed out by the the funhouse and slowly starving to death so she becomes more irritable and becouse of the pressure out on their mental health Mikan finally snaps under her bullying and kills her off, obviously this would mean other characters would have to die instead of Hiyoko and Mikan in chapter 3 but its just an idea i had thx for reading

Hiyoko is interesting to me because like, while on paper I don't dislike her, I just find her dialogue unpleasant to parse through? It just feels like she often goes too far, bullying not only Mikan but Kazuichi and other characters. I think she really could've used a lot of fleshing out and it's a darn shame she didn't get her chance to shine. I guess I would say I think Hiyoko is an enjoyable character in isolation but in practice I find her exhausting to get through.

I really do wish Hiyoko was able to survive, she's one of my favorite characters and imo one of the worst treated characters of the trilogy who had the greatest potential. She reminds me of a Himiko a bit, I imagine she would've had a similar late game arc to her...though possibly would've been a bit more popular. I guess Himiko surviving and getting a full arc is reparations for Hiyoko being snubbed lol? Had she survived, Hiyoko could've had some fun and more deeper dynamics with Fuyuhiko as well as being a parallel to him. The two short people with babyfaces telling everyone how it is would've been so much more funnier than anything Sonia or Kazuichi said. Plus, it would've been nice and added more to Fuyuhiko if he helped Hiyoko change her ways when she fell down or to help her grieve Mahiru as he would've been the only one to fully understand what she'd be going through. I want to say what I would've preferred if Hiyoko were to survive. Some of what I'm going to say is an original thought though some isn't. Chapter 3 would only kill Ibuki and Mikan. This is my own original idea. I think it would be beneficial to simplify that chapters case as it's just a bad chapter, though this is really just a band aid. Hiyoko survives and progresses her development, befriending Fuyuhiko in this chapter. She's remorseful of her bullying and starts to befriend some of the cast, though very slowly. I would like to have a scene where she apologizes to Kazuichi, Sonia, and Akane at the end of chapter 3, and then to others before the killings start in chapter 4. I would have chapter 4 still take place in the fun house, but here would be where the double murder takes place. I'd kill off Sonia and Nekomaru (unoriginal idea) and have Kazuichi be their killer (my idea). I do remember hearing about this chapter 4 double kill on twitter or maybe here on youtube briefly. Someone else said that Sonia would've woken up early and went to the chamber where Nekomaru was hanging upside down, and as she went to the center of the room Nekomaru would fall onto her, killing her instantly. Now for my idea as Kazuichi being the killer of chapter 4 is a bit different than the original posters idea, they kept Gundam as the killer. The characters being locked inside the funhouse with no food until someone died would still be the motive. Kazuichi being a killer is a bit unlikely as he wouldn't sacrifice the others to escape, but here's how I would write him to be one. Thinking he could save everyone and avoid being the blackened, he chose to kill Nekomaru only seeing him as a robot and thinking he'd be a loophole. Nekomaru could easily overpower him and might even kill Kazuichi if he failed, so he chose to knock him out upon entering the chamber. I believe Kazuichi would be too cowardly to kill Nekomaru with his own hands so that's where he'd be tied to the pillar again like how Gundam tied him. Due to his ultimate talent, Kazuichi was familiar with the mechanisms of the funhouse and used it to his advantage. However, he never thought Sonia would be killed as well. I feel bad for killing off Sonia here as I do like her and enjoy her character, but I think it's the best choice for drama story and multiple characters, there's just too much payoff if she died here by Kazuichi. When discovering the bodies Kazuichi would be filled with despair. After hearing Monokuma say there will be a class trial the only thing he can cling to is his own life, he's too scared to die and his mind is broken from the events, so he goes into survival mode. He hides himself as the killer until he breaks down during the class trial. Sonia's death would have Gundam be vulnerable expressing many emotions during the investigation and trial. I also think it would be interesting to see him and Kazuichi having a conversation as "rivals" during this where Gundam is resentful towards Kazuichi, which his hurt would soon progress into understanding but though would still hold ill feelings towards him. Gundam after this chapter would still be a bit theatrical but would be more down to earth, feeling more comfortable around the others. All of the characters do hate Monokuma and want to rebel against him but had Gundam been a survivor I feel he'd be the one who'd rebel the most in chapter 6. Hiyoko during this chapter 4 would be toned down in her personality, though it would still shine through at points. What would be her big moment this chapter would be expressing sorrow and understanding of the deaths. Hiyoko not holding the murders against Kazuichi as he was trying to help them, and then understanding why he eventually decided to hide his guiltiness taking sympathy for him. She would also feel regretful for both Sonia and Kazuichi's deaths, adding on to her development. Had they died earlier she might've not felt much, but since she was starting to change, she'd feel regretful that she treated Kazuichi so badly feeling horrible for how she bullied him and now she had to watch his death. It wouldn't be that big of a scene, but I would write Hiyoko to be regretful and sad over Sonia's death as she was her least favorite person. At the end of this chapter Hiyoko would have updated the shrine in the restaurant to include fake Byakuya, Teruteru, Mahiru, Peko, Ibuki, Mikan, Sonia, Nekomaru, and Kazuichi. This would express her guilt to the dead and after this chapter, Hiyoko would fully change her ways, being kind to the remaining characters (though would still call them out from time to time lol). This is my scenario and what I personally think would be best for a rewritten chapter 3 and 4. Both these chapters would give Hiyoko a redemption, Kazuichi some more depth, and would give both Hiyoko and Gundam survivor placements and much more development as characters, which I think would be better options than Sonia and Kazuichi's essentially nonexistent character arcs. I actually do like Sonia and Kazuichi, but I'd rather have four chapters of them being comedic and then being catalysts to character arcs than two barely used survivors that just take up space and have minimal to do with the story. Chapter 5 and 6 would play out similarly to the game, Nagito and Chiaki dying in 5 and then chapter 6 have the survivors finding out the truth of what happened and escaping together to save the others. Just in this version every survivor would feel important. Hajime, Fuyuhiko, Akane, Hiyoko, and Gundam would all have character arcs that improved their initial characters from chapter 1 and would all have a character that they'd be surviving for. Which save for Hajime, would also be surviving to save that character from the coma that the "dead" characters were in (you can argue Hajime is surviving to save fake Byakuya, Teruteru, Ibuki, Mikan, Kazuichi, and or Nagito, but I'm not lol). Anyways sorry for this long ass rant, I've been thinking about what a Danganronpa 2 with a survivor Hiyoko would be like since early 2017 and have recently been getting back into Danganronpa so I just wanted to put all these thoughts somewhere ijbol😭😭😭😭

Something i would like to point out is how most hated characters are because of where they die in the story and how the good in them is usually outweighed or just flat out ignored by the bad, either a generally annoying personality or one bad action in an unsound mental state causes them to get overwhelming hate [sayaka.] Since im gonna be voicing a character in a fangan who may end up in that situation i just want to lay out my anxiety over the reception of the character, i dont want him to be overshadowed by hatredz so if you see vissarion, the ultimate clockmaker, please dont go feral on the guy.

(spoilers for Danganronpa: V3) This is kind of my two cents on the entire Angie also being killed off in a spur of the moment, but I actually think it kind of makes sense? as Angie throughout the entire story operates almost purely on fact/logic (yes she does manipulate others via love-bombing but think in the class trials I mean it was her to point out in ch2 that Himiko could possibly be the killer). And I think that this works because of who the other victim is, Tenko someone who thinks only with her own emotion (i.e "Himiko can't be the killer cos uhhh lesbian!") and I think its a very interesting narrative choice to have Tenko someone whose actions are dictated purely by her own emotion be killed in a pre-meditated logistical murder, whilst Angie someone who only ever thought by using logic was killed just because Korekiyo wanted to do a "silly little teehee murder" (which one could argue was done more-so out of emotion than logic seeing as his cover-up job is barely decent at best) pretty much I think that the way they go out is so interesting because it is the polar opposite of well who Tenko and Angie were as people, I am also aware that especially Angie is very much disliked (as stated in the video) but honestly I feel like most of the dislike is unwarranted or for stupid reasons, yes Angie is not a perfect person but she is also (to my recollection) THE ONLY STUDENT in the entire franchise to attempt to stop the killing game (and yes ik that Celeste in the 1st game did try to implement some rules and stuff but she also lied about Taka physically attacking her, and killed 2 people, so clearly she isnt really the best other example for that, compared to Angie who yet again is not winning the person of the year award, but Angie is nowhere near as scummy as someone like Celeste, yes Angie is a liar, yes Angie might through people under the bus, but all of it comes from a most likely well intentioned place with her using her logic to get to point x but not understading that with the lack of emotion that reaching point x may hurt someone along the way, if that makes sense, I honestly did not realise how much I have to say on Angie)

on my most recent playthrough of sdr2, i found myself liking hiyoko a lot. it's pretty clear to me that she's like taking the killing game seriously. sdr2 is a cast chock-full of fit people, and it sucks that the stress of it all might've even made hiyoko lash out more than she otherwise would but like... i don't blame her at all. also, yugioh's pretty rad so i'll definitely be checking your other vids out. and have a cool one out there, too.

In my opinion, the best substitute for Hiyoko’s death would have been… no one. Just don’t have a second victim. Make it just Ibuki. Sure the first game started the third trial-double victim trend, but it was the second game that made it a trend. There’s no reason they could’ve just, not done that. If there’s just one victim, then DR2 can just end up with 6 survivors like the first game. I think that’s the best solution.

One thing I do disagree on is that Sonia didn’t do much. When the group dwindles, she becomes the “heart” of the group, the one that feels the most and you can see that in her rebuttal showdown with Hajime in chapter 5, as well as her growing despair at the reveal of the killer in chapter 4. She may not have had as bombastic of a character moment as some of the others do, but she was essential for the emotion of the group, in my opinion.

Something that I think is something similar to Himiko in v3, something like that, maybe I would even say that Hiyoko would be more interested in solving Sonia's case than Ibuki's, not because she hates Hibuki, but rather Because she feels completely responsible for Sonia's death, after that she actively wants to solve the case so she knows who to vote for, maybe even saying that Mikan would have targeted her.If it weren't for the fact that Sonia appeared to give more madness to Mikan and more surprise to Hiyoko, that she could have been in Sonia's place.
