Give me the "Crickets" especially Buddy Holly anytime. And I'm from liverpool. You Americans should celebrate the life and music of the greatest (arguaby), innovator of popular music, bar none more often❤. ..Ringo not in the same class as Jerry Allison, Buddy's drummer. Ask Mick Fleetwood

Thanks for watching and offering up your take! Yes, we are big fans of the Beatles and do celebrate them. Like you, we are also big fans of Buddy Holly and The Crickets. We did a show for the 65th anniversary of the tragic plane crash that took Buddy Holly's, Ritchie Valens', J.P. Richardson's and the young pilot's lives. We covered The Winter Dance Party tour that they were a big part of. I encourage you to check out this link along with some of our other episodes. kzbin.info/www/bejne/joGXg56Bib2leas Thanks again for watching!

Thanks Rick. This was fun. I remember at Horstmans (I always call it Ruth’s), we would pool our money and go to the store. Underneath the cash register she had the boxes of little candies that you could pick out 3 for a nickel or a few cents. Ruth had the patience of a saint as we picked our selections. 😂. My favorite was the Slow Poke. A bit later… the Black Cow. The same type of toffee sucker as the Slow Poke but it had a milk chocolate covering. Thanks for the think back. I had to laugh at the candy necklace

Another engaging and enjoyable episode, Rick! A few candies on my list include Mild Duds, Whoppers, Lemon Drops, Cherry Drops, Jawbreakers, Bit-o-Honey, Chicklets, Gold Nugget bubble gum, Chuckles, Slo Poke, Black Cow, Bonomo Turkish Taffey (vanilla was the best - and another one you freeze before eating), Tootsie Rolls, Tootsie Pops, and Necco wafers. And I'm sure there are many many more!!

When I was a tiny tot, I watched "Perry Mason," and enjoyed it a lot--although I don't think I was old enough to understand the legal goings-on portrayed in the show. Strangely, the sharpest memory I have connected with the series was the Public Service Announcement that William Talman appeared in posthumously in which he warned people not to smoke!

I didn't watch Perry Mason until about five years ago. Why do I love this show? Well... besides the theme song, Park Avenue Beat, I loved the exceptional crafting of the story, the script, the cast, the fashion, the cars, etc...Perry Mason had everything. Too bad the producers and studios don't get anything right today. I love seeing "Lt. Tragg" in roles on major movies.

"The Man From U.N.C.L.E." (especially during it's first two seasons) was the best of the secret agent adventure shows that were so prolific during the 60's. Coolest props (the pen communicator, the U.N.C.L.E. special, the THRUSH cycloptic scope rifle, transparent gas grenades, U.N.C.L.E. HQ with it's hidden entrance and all the cool defense systems within), the two leads had the best chemistry of all the tv spy duos, Leo G. Carroll was just irreplaceable, Jerry Goldsmith and Morton Steven's brilliant music, memorable guest stars like William Shatner, Barbara Feldon, Vincent Price, Ricardo Montalban and Kurt Russell, and it had the right balance of intrigue and humour (before the network foolishly made them go campy in season 3). It was just an excellent action series that (like 'Star Trek") still manages to be entertaining even after all these years.

David McCallum was not happy about the reference to Illya Kuryakin.
@gallery75965 ай бұрын
Yes, he told the producers he didn't want them to do it. And we can sorta understand McCallum's reluctance considering how many years it took before he finally got a series that enabled him to be seen by audiences as someone other than Illya. Still, I'm glad they went ahead with it as it was a clever idea that people continue to talk about.

I loved all the Police Shows, Adam 12 a favorite in the 1960's. So many, Police Story, Mod Squad. Dragnet, Police Women, the list goes on. My Uncle worked personnel dept. of a major police agency. Before all these cop shows recruitment for new officers was hard with constant advertising to find applicants. By the late 1960's police agencies were inundated with people looking to join.

I liked all those shows too. Times were changing! I became obsessed for a short time with Honey West in the mid-sixties. Anne Francis played the part of a clever, strong, and somewhat independent investigator, and she was blonde. But she still had a guy that was always nearby to rescue her when needed. I liked it when she dressed in black for sneaking around at night. (I think she wore black, but then the show was in black and white.)

Good call, Barb! Honey West! I think with today’s standards, she could have held up on her own just fine. Thanks for watching!

WOW.....Honey West....Tough Choice bettween Honey West and Emma Peele from the Avengers series....like choosing bettween Ginger and Maryann on Giligands Island....Tryin to figure out if TV back then did more good than not back in the day...(and No where compared to now)...(Don't get me started on David and Goliath vs Gum,by shows).

What about the bass player Waylon Jennings. Buddy's good friend, he had come to New York City where Buddy Holly was living with his wife Maria, to become the bass player on the tour. Buddy Waylon sat and talked about why he was not going to take the plane, it was due to J.P. having the flu and being very sick, so during the talk, Buddy said so, get back on the bus and freeze, and Waylon said, I hope your ol plane crashes.

Yes, I realized after I listened to the podcast that I had misspoke. Dion was only saying that the $36 for the flight would have been out of his price range . The decision about who would fill the two other seats came down to Buddy’s bandmates, Tommy Allsup and Waylon Jennings , and The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens.
