I don't have repeat feature in my illustrator 2015, how can i grid like that?

Yeah, this feature is only a few years old. You can use the Step and Repeat feature. Here's my video on that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iGaUfH1tr7qraZosi=L_g1NrOrjGXKxLtE

which side of pinterest do you dwell on, the posters you gather are really interesting. i always think "ill request the first poster" and then see the second and say "ill request 1 and 2" then i end up saying "damn its really hard to choose" great work, i find your videos very helpful
@TheDesignSmithКүн бұрын
Thank you! I've been using Pinterest enough over the years that it just shows what it knows I'll like. But I just search for "graphic design posters" or "poster designs." The more designs you click on, the more you'll feed the algorithm and you'll find more of what you're looking for. I'll be doing Pinterest surfing videos soon!

Doing some research on anti-design. The tough part for me is striking the balance between breaking rules or acting as if you know design rules but are unskilled.
@TheDesignSmith17 күн бұрын
Absolutely! It's a fine line. You certainly need to have a good foundational knowledge of design principles before you can go breaking those rules effectively. Maybe I'll make more anti-design videos 😎

I've been working on a big project for more than a year now and I still feel bad that I can't get the layout, colors right without creating multiple versions. In some cases, I'm talking about like 20 versions for a mobile screen and that's before we hold a meeting for further revisions. And recently I have noticed that I've been following too many design guidelines and forgetting about the human eye aspect of how a design should look. For example, I would have spacings that are 16, 24, 32 pixels and nothing in between BUT on a rare occasion the preset padding just doesn't "look right" to the human eye. So I realized I need to implement more optical corrections in my designs. I felt like a failure before I realized my designs need more optical corrections. I thought I did everything right by strictly following guidelines.
@TheDesignSmith17 күн бұрын
I know exactly how you feel! Guidelines and grids certainly have their place, but if it doesn't quite "click" even though it's technically snapping to a grid, then you're definitely free to make those adjustments optically. This is a good topic for a follow up video to this one 😎

Hi, I really like watching your videos! I know you generally exclusively use the Adobe suite, but there is a really cool tool in Affinity Designer that makes poster #3 much easier to generate. In Affinity Designer, there are isometric grid tools that you can use to snap your lines to. Additionally, there's a great "Edit in plane" tool when you have an isometric, dimetric and so-on grid style active, which automatically applies a matrix shift to all your primitives. So, for example, with the "edit in plane" option active for an isometric grid, all of your shape tools (like rectangle, circle, star, and so on) respect the shifted grid, drawing a "square" in-plane actually produces that diamond shape you see in your example. It's easily one of the most useful tools that Affinity offers that Adobe does not.

Yeah, I haven't had time to check out Affinity, but it's on my list!
