Hello Peter. I have a question. ¿What shape of cane and hardness do you use in this video? And which of these three templates do you recommend to play Bach? Thanks a lot
@peterkovacs13972 ай бұрын
Hello, I used Borgue shaper form, and hardness about 10-11, from these three I think MT ,depend on which "Bach" 😇😇 now I am making usually with Kge machine 🙂 But shaper form still same 🙂

Yes, I echo the sentiments on the visible technical detail that you demonstrate in the reed profiling process and also the additional refinements made to ‘fine tune’ the whittling process. However, the PLAYING: I have to say, I am enamoured by your playing. I’ve listened to many fine oboists and there are so many more to listen to but I have to say that I enjoy your playing. It resonates with what I practice to aspire too in terms of control, tone and articulation. Please state whether there are videos of you playing on line and if not WHY not!! I, for one, would love to hear more of your expression on the oboe and I’m sure, in all humility, that there would be others that would second this request. Please!!

This was really informative thanks. I'm considering buying one of these machines and was trying to decide which templates to go for. Im thinking of getting a Lory for the lovely rich and mellow sound, and the MAU for the brighter and more flexible sound for solo/concerto work. :-)

I’d never have a parrot as an oboist reed maker. No profiler for me. I met Robert Gilbert in 1972 and been making reeds ever since then, and still. I wonder what gouge you use. Thanks for sharing. By the way, I never did have a recording of what your soundtrack is here. It sounds like an Italian Concerto. I have 10,000 records and I don’t think I have a copy of that :-)

Wow, amazing videos! Thank you very much for the insights you gave us :-) I guess you had to adjust the reeds after shaping them with the profiler? There were only few reeds, that worked good for me when playing it instantly after shaping. Or is it only a matter of profiler adjustment?
@peterkovacs13972 жыл бұрын
After profiling I just play on it, and if its hard, I put it back on the machine. Maybe little bit adjustment of tip, if its too thick. And check the sides if are the same thickness.

Great video, thank you. I have the Lory template too, but my reeds never work like that straight from the machine, even when the tip is scraped .10mm - I have to scrape so much more to get any vibrations. Any idea why?
@peterkovacs13974 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😉 I dont know exactly why it is 🤔 There can be more aspects why is it for example , the blunt blade, I had similar problem, but after resharpening the blade, it works fine 😉 Maybe to hard cane, if I have a realy hard cane, which is so hard in flexibility test already, the reed after profiling is hard to play, I let it dry, then again a little bit playing on it, and after that, I put it on the machine again, with same setting and ussualy came some cane of from it and is better then 😉 Other thing, You should try to not tight clamping it, so more cane is remove from back. The Lory has a little bit thicker back, so maybe it help 🙂
@matthewjones91584 жыл бұрын
The cane could be hard, but not less than 10 on the hardness tester. I think the blade could be a bit old - I will try my spare! I really liked your videos - so good to see tips for Euro style reeds. There’s so much about American reeds but much less for us!👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
@peterkovacs13974 жыл бұрын
I use from 10-13,14 hardness, but I also chceck the flexibility. The new, or resharpered blade can make miracle 😉 Yes, You are right, there is not many videos of Eu stylev🤔

Truly outstanding video!! Now that you've demonstrated the use of the RnS profiler, I think I'll have to get one too :) I would imagine the "MAU" letters probably stand for "Maurice Bourgue" of Paris. Keep up the fantastic work, Peter! You're a wonderful oboist and teacher.

Thank You 😉 Its a big help for oboe reed making. But also You need a good cane, right shape , instrument 😊 and then is oboe life easier with profiler 😉🙂

I'm currently switching to European style reeds, I've been playing on them for a few months now. I'm considering buying this profiler but I have no idea what template to buy. Do you have a recommendation? I tend to like British Modern French style reeds that are a little brighter but more free blowing. I really liked the MAU that you used in this video in fact.
@peterkovacs13974 жыл бұрын
Hello, It is realy hard to say 🤔 I had to try some of them to find which is for me the best. Mau is very fine for me, its easier than MT and Lory. I think, Mau can work, there is also an ANA template, which I tried and works for me, also easier and nice playing. ( I tried Fab2 , J, Albi too, but these are not for me 😉 )

@peterkovacs13974 жыл бұрын
Hello, is hard to say it, there is lot of canes with dark sound, also You can make it with Your style of scraping. Now I use a cane from Turkey, which is hard cane, has nice sound. I use Lavoro and Rigotti also and they has nice sound too. I use thickness between 56-58/100mm For me is less so soft and more than 58,59 is hard, If You use harder cane. It depend on hardness of Your cane.

Hello 😉 It depends on each cane You have, You get results maybe between 0,17 to 0,30 and You can choose which is good for You by trying it, and You get result that for You with Your cane is good 0,22, ( its a example ) I did the compare now for You, and with my cane is 0,225 on scale the 9 on hardness tester and 0,200 is 13 But as I said, it depend on the cane.
