I use to valet Newish Jags of this year and model in 1965 it was a absolute thrill to drive it up and down the garages driveway, as i wasn't allowed on the road.

In 1953 1 paid a fellow student 25 pounds sterling for one of these Cars. It had belonged to a doctor during WW2 and was not in the best of shape although the engine still performed as best it could. This restored example is testimony to the art of bodywork and upholstery, And no doubt to mechanical excellence. Far too nice to take out today amid the screaming boxes vying for lane domination. Probably too expensive to contemplate for many enthusiasts. Nice thought though?

That is an outstanding restoration; unquestionably some of the finest body styling of the 1930s, both inside and out; all the SS Jaguars look wonderful today. They stood out at the time; even amongst perhaps the finest epoch of beautiful cars; and for an incredible price then too. Pity it's only the 1 and 1/2 litre 4 cylinder Standard side valve engine, which is very underpowered and slow. The 2 1/2 and 3 1/2 sixes, with OHV reworked heads by Harry Weslake were much better engines. Nonetheless someone's going to really enjoy this.

I don't think it's a side valve engine. At 4:50 you can clearly see the rocker cover with the oil filler on top.

@@rolandburisch9489 If it's an SS 1 from after 1938, then it could be the 1776cc OHV engine, but if it's from before then it would definitely be the 1608cc side valve unit - so you could be right. I am assuming this is a pre-war car, because the largely identical Mark IV afterwards were simply branded a Jaguar, for obvious reasons.

Most assuredly a post war example , and most certainly fitted with the 1776 cc ohv engine , which is also to be found in the Triumph 1800cc drop head with dickey, ...another car which was hard pressed to pull the skin off a cold Bradford curry. Bill Lyons had an impeccable eye for coachwork design , but was unable to back this up with power units commensurate with appearance until the late 30's : the cars were considered garish and somewhat infra-dig in their day , and have only recently become accepted in the PVT category of the VSCC eligible cars . My V1th form school chum had a good example back in 1963 , which cost him all of £12 !!! Sadly it went to the breakers in '66 despite its robust condition :I still reminisce at the photos :
