Greetings and Love from Cologne, Germany. The band name has nothing to do with former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher or some damsels. The 'Iron Maiden' is a medieval torture instrument. The Artwork was made by the one and only Derek Riggs. He was going to do this really distorted figure for the devil, and he just didn't have time, to work out all the distortions he wanted in it. And he didn't have time to paint it. So after a few sketches, he just started painting, and he ended up with a human figure that looks a bit wrong. And it was supposed to be a portrait of Salvador Dali, because he thought that would be funny, but he don't think anybody noticed it. It wasn't that good a portrait. It was along those lines. It does look a bit like him, without the mustache, if you compare it to some pictures. However, it was my very first Metal Album (Vinyl) that i bought in 1985 and it's one of two favorite EDDIE's. Hey, have a peaceful sunday, guys ...stay safe & UP THE IRONS ✌...from an atheist 😊

This analysis makes sense, really. I am a Christian, familar with all the discography of their music. I love their music. I have since my late teens early 2000s just before coming Christian. But it is not lost on me the meaning of their music and their various associations (Bloodbath). I would be interested in your analysis of "I am nothing" "Saw you Drown". " For my demons" might back up your analysis. EDIT: Sleeper is like their horror movie song from the clean vocal era, that taps into these themes. A premonition from the same album is also a haunting lullaby.

Man, I hate that with this concept in the background, so many of his lyrics seem to fit. I want to be cautious about reinforcing my interpretations with too much speculation. But like I said, he went through some things, and they seem deadly serious. "You would never sleep at night if you knew what I've been through" - stood out to me. "Parents died, left their child" - reminds me of the stepfather idea. Thanks for the comment, I'll need to check out these songs further sometime.

Wow. I'm speechless, but I also have things to say. First of all, no I won't sue you 😂 Night is the New Day is such a banger. Like every other album of the band, tbh. I enjoy every era. Just different ways of making good music. Thank you for analyzing Follower lyrics. I love how the band can make melodic and calm music, but also heavy and intense. Honestly, this was much heavier than I thought it would be. I like how you analyze the lyrics in a way that I probably wouldn't think of, that's possibly Jonas' intention, that we have different interpretations. It's possible that you're right, although it's better if you're not... Jonas always talks about birds, usually in the first person, which makes me believe that he would like to be a bird. He likes to portray himself as a bird, especially like a crow. (Which indicates darkness, wisdom, knowledge). In fact, my nickname "Unfurl" (from The Great Cold Distance) is a song that talks precisely about spreading your wings and flying... Maybe to freedom, to achieve new things, and above all to be at peace, finally. This is a recurring theme in the band, maybe a metaphor for death, since the beginning, as in "Velvet Thorns", which in my opinion, narrates the su1-cide of the lyrical self, where in the end he succeeds, and finally flies... (I would be very happy if you analyzed this song too. It is longer, but I believe it is worth it). It is not difficult to see how Jonas has a lot of suffering and dark thoughts. In addition to a difficult personal life (depression, trauma), Sweden is an atheist and predominantly cold country, which influence directly in the wellbeing of its people. Lately Jonas has been mentioning Satan on Instagram, the band is going through a difficult time, as both guitarists simply disappeared from Katatonia's commitments, without further explanation. Anyway, things are happening. Jonas is an exceptional musician, with an unmistakable voice, well-written lyrics and good melodies, but unfortunately it seems to me that he is lost, which could not be otherwise, since he has always been far from his true Father. We should definitely keep praying that God's love reaches Jonas' heart and that he finds the peace he so seeks, but in life. You did a great job! Thanks again for the video! Ave Christus Rex!
@MetalSharpensMetal
@MetalSharpensMetal 9 күн бұрын
Glad you got to check it out! I also hope I'm wrong about the specific meaning... Jonas and the bird/flying thing totally makes sense in terms of wanting his own freedom and ability to go where he wants. Also an interesting point about the nature of Sweden lending itself to a sadder outlook on life. I had no idea their guitarists were...flaking? Leaving? Crazy. I've seen some of his mentions of satan too, which is disheartening. It seems to be darkness begetting darkness, because we know satan won't be the one to help you move forward past it all; that's the job of Christ the king and His Spirit. Thanks for the compliments and thoughts!

@@MetalSharpensMetal I think it was early last year that Anders Nystrom had to step away from the shows for family reasons and never came back... The band hasn't made any further statements about him. This year it was Roger Öjersson's turn to "disappear", I read somewhere that it was for health reasons, but I don't know the details. The band hasn't made any statements about him either... And yes, I believe that Jonas' surroundings doesn't help him to return to Christ, quite the opposite. Fortunately if God wants to seek him as His lost sheep, nothing can stop Him.

I think, the man in the story is someone struggling to accept his fate. Apparently he was brought up Christian, but his struggle suggests that he believes what 's happening to him to be unjust. That's why he feels abandoned by God. However during the course of the song, he goes through the process to eventually accept his fate and praise the Lord in his dying moments. That final crisis of faith in my opinion is represented by the wild instrumental section including the guitar solos before the final outcry of: "Hallowed be thy name."

@@MetalSharpensMetal People called Maiden Satanic because of the album The Number of the Beast, but that’s far from the truth. While the title track was considered by many religious groups in the United States as evidence that Iron Maiden was a Satanic band, the song was in fact inspired by a nightmare that bassist Steve Harris had, triggered by watching the film Damien: Omen II late at night. In addition, Harris has stated that the lyrics were also influenced by Robert Burns' Tam o' Shanter. The track opens with a spoken introduction from the Book of Revelation, read by actor Barry Clayton.According to Dickinson, the band originally approached Vincent Price to record the passage, but were unwilling to pay Price's fee of 25,000. Although the liner notes state that the passage is from Revelation 13:18, the first line comes from 12:12.

Hello, my name is Brian from White Bear Lake, Minnesota...I am not sure if you did the Live 1982 Iron Maiden song video of 'Hallowed Be Thy Name' yet, but incase you haven't i will leave the link below..So this is a must watch video from Iron Maiden and it is considered to be the best metal video of all time. This should be everyone's first introduction to the band and Bruce's amazing voice. In my opinion this video is why i think every other rock singer secretly wishes that they could sing like Bruce could back in his prime. You can really hear singer Bruce Dickinson's operatic voice come out, along with his perfectly long held vibratos, long notes, and vocal range, Bruce sings his butt off in this video. The studio/album version you listened to really isn't that great, but the 1982 video version Live from Hammersmith is incredible. Pay attention to the long note in the beggining of the song, and the 2 long notes at end of song, they are 'EPIC'.... I'm pretty sure you already know that the song is about a man being sent to the gallows to be hanged and he is looking back on his life. Most of Iron Maiden's songs are about an important event that has happened in history. So watch this video for sure, it is just amazing !!! Hope you like it. I don't know anything about C.S. Lewis on whose writings this album is based on according to Wikipedia. To me the wires plugged into the person's head on the album cover are not symbolizing "man vs. machine" but on the contrary transhumanism. Man uses technology to surpass God and make him obsolete, so that ultimately the reference to God becomes a circle around man himself. ("They exchanged the incorruptible, For the image of fallen man, Worshiped creature rather than creator, The image rather than his hand ..."). This also fits in well with the following song "artificial immortality" where technology is described as a means to "Shake off the chains, The constraints of your mortality". I'm not religious but listening to these songs makes me think that in today's world religion has lost its function of capturing people in their quest for omnipotence and at the same time giving them a sense of reality as a demarcation from the transcendental. Instead, we are increasingly seeing that what is technologically feasible is ultimately implemented without considering ethical boundaries. Just think of surveillance through social media or the rapid development of artificial intelligence. I'm not a native speaker, so I could be completely wrong... But at least the lyrics make you think, which is something BTA has over many very interchangeable bands.
@MetalSharpensMetal
@MetalSharpensMetal 21 күн бұрын
Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I can definitely see the transhumanism angle. I'm pretty sure the space trilogy from Lewis talks about those very things - the unethical and unquestioned advancements of science, where we do things merely because we can. Lewis talked a lot about the problems that come when we try to be our own gods.
