One of my hobbies long ago was construction. I did like building and framing. That's how I accumulated tools. I take some consolation that structures I built 20 years ago are still rock solid.

Still new to making vids. Sry for being out of frame. Was more focused on the project than framing the video properly.

Both saw horses are at least as old as my house or older. They were my dad’s before he passed. One of the is starting to get I think dry wrot
@jackasswhiskyandpintobeans934427 күн бұрын
Your dad made the sawhorse from a kit. The kit being the metal part. It's possible there is dry rot, but not likely if the sawhorse was kept inside. You just need to tighten or replace the screws.
@Bastet67427 күн бұрын
@@jackasswhiskyandpintobeans9344 he didn’t make them. He bought them
@jackasswhiskyandpintobeans934429 күн бұрын
Your sawhorse is wobbly because the screws have loosened. The red metal part has screws that hold the legs and also the 2x4 crossbar. The screws for the crossbar are the problem.

100gr sandpaper is only supposed to get the very rough stuff off.
@jackasswhiskyandpintobeans9344Ай бұрын
Another bit of advice if you want it. Stand that limb on end, cup that sheet of sandpaper in your loosely in your hand and run in horizontally up and down the limb. When it gets about down flip the limb over and repeat. It will be more efficient that way as won't be bending over so much. I kind through my back a bit and it is painful to me knowing that you are doing your back any favors.

When I started buying tools, I was young and poor. Every year I would buy one quality tool. Now I am old and fairly wealthy. I don't use many of the tools I have. If I need them the tools are there. The last shop power tool I bought was a Jet scroll saw. It is so nice and indispensable to me.

I haven't debarked a limb in a while. Space is always my concern. Lately my hobby has been refurbishing the scales (handles) on old pocketknives. I have a lot of hardwood trees in yard, so I always am salvaging. My latest salvaging comes from a butternut tree. A very nice hardwood with grain like maple. I just finished rescaling a Boker Barlow with Butternut.

I have a small random orbit sander that I turned upside down and clamped into my bench vice. With very coarse sandpaper you can debark limbs in very little time. The interesting part is that there are a couple layers to bark and when Tung oil, poly or lacquer is applied the colors of the layers pop.

@@Bastet674 100 grit is very course. In sanding or sharpening you go from low to high. The sandpaper I use for wood is 200gr, 400gr and 1000gr. The 1000gr looks like the mesh from a screen door and will make wood as smooth as glass.

Before you practice.. that. Maybe try to do the Minamoto musahsi's technique, because you are going for a duel handed style. Tbh you gotta train how to use sabre (aka hema) too, as that will teach you the basic posture and insight of motions when spinning/retreading the blade. Hope you can master that inner nerdiness. gud luck
