Amazing sound from a small organ. Well played & have subscribed. How old is this organ, how long has it been at the Station & what was the idea behind it?

Although it may be an edition late to say it by one year, I very much enjoyed this 2022 installment of The Organ Show, and my first exposure to many of these new bits of repertoire was wonderful to hear. Thank you for the great programs you put together for us organists, they are always sublime to watch!

Oliver Wallace, composer, organist and eventually music director for Walt Disney was the first person to use a pipe organ to accompany a silent movie. Jessie Crawford learned his organ technique by observing Wallace when both were playing in Tacoma Washington at competing theatres.

While I've never been a fan of cinema organ music and its style, I am in total awe of the organists who have mastered it. I see a comparison with the church organist conjuring up registrations to match the verses of the psalms, as well as the improvisations they have to provide during the liturgy, and the cinema organist when he had to improvise "on the hoof" everything that he saw on the screen and provide suitable accompaniment! Both require amazing musicality and skill. I applaud every musician who can improvise - sadly a gift I don't have!

Unfortunately, Tansy's microphone didn't work so everything she said was lost. As a choral musician, I was most interested in her comments and regret I could hear them.

We're really sorry about the microphone issue in Tansy's interview. We re-recorded it after the show and will replay it in a forthcoming programme.
