Man, this helped out a ton! Thanks for this video. PLEASE PEOPLE take note of that rag covering the hole where the thermostat goes. If you slip getting that sensor placed and that hole isn’t covered, your little sensor can slide right down in there. (Ask me how I know) I ended up getting mine out, but I thought I lost it in there and was about to be screwed. Keep a rag stuffed in there until sensor is installed! Great vid!

My needle went down and ac stopped working. Check engine came on. Codes showed ac relay and thermostat code.and then it would randomly fix itself, the needle went back to normal and ac worked. Now its out again. I changed the thermostat, ac compressor relay, added coolant.....and nothing. Now this? Could this be the missing piece ?

I am no mechanic Johnny! Was just lucky to figure this method out. Its a real bear to get to the part, but it's only $10.

I used a bent needle nose plier to disconnect the electrical harness from the top of the ECT. a.co/d/eBrzpvm

Had you recently changed your factory battery when you started having this problem? I started having it after replacing my battery.

No. Had the truck about 3 weeks (new to me) with 56K on the clock. AC quit cooling as the first symptom.

@@jklphoto I changed my battery and the next day I was driving and heard humming sound. Looked down and the temp had bottomed out. Fans ran a few minutes after the truck was turned off. Disconnected the battery ground for about ten minutes and it reset. I'll probably end up replacing the sensor and thermostat if the issue returns. Thanks I was just wondering about your situation.

Not gonna lie, it's a bit frustrating. But a whole lot cheaper than what a dealer would charge. Drain your coolant. Remove the stat housing and you'll be able to get at the ECT with a standard wrench. Getting the fine threads started when re-installing the new ECT is fiddly, but doable.
