Wonderful variation to be enjoyed in its own right, regardless of whether (or not) it was written by an 11 year old.

Absolutely yes. Quite subtle harmonic sequences amused me a lot!! And I think this record is best among some extremes..

why is there no reprise in the fourth movement of this symphony?

Very direct and straightforward playing. Not colorful, not spectacular apart from the technical perfection, but you get the outline. The piece itself is fascinating and full of interesting harmonies and twists and turns unusual to Chopin.

There's a small mistake at 6:50, all the G-Naturals are actually G-Flats.

Cecile Chaminade's compositions are among the most beautiful ever written for the piano. Her orchestral works also often exude indescribable beauty. I am surprised that she is hardly known beyond specialist circles these days. In fact, she deserves a similar rank in music history to Frederic Chopin or Franz Liszt. Chaminade had an excellent feeling for moving themes and their harmonization. The virtuoso development of her pieces is a hurdle for some pianists at first. Perhaps that is also the reason why she was not able to achieve great public fame, because many of her pieces are inaccessible to amateurs, while other composers always wrote music that was suitable for home use alongside virtuoso and technically difficult works. I am hardly aware of any such "easy" pieces by Cecile Chaminade.

He was 7-12 when this was composed. Czerny was his teacher, and also wrote the coda to the Vaterländischer Künstlerverein.

An utter shambles. To make the music clear, it needs to be played slower. This mess goes to show that faster is not always better.

@@rheakinn3196 yes. Ive been strolling through Liszt's files or pieces, most of his pieces contain that melody. Though most romantic pieces has that.

@@norman783 are there examples you can give me? I was put off when this "lick" came in-was not expecting something expressive and romantic in a "hellish" sonata-nevertheless, it is a beautiful melody
