Love your dynamics. What setting on your kawai are you using might I ask? I own the kawai es920 too and love it.😂
@AdamFearnPiano5 ай бұрын
Hi Michelle. This was on the Warm Grand piano type, but I don't know what settings I used for this as I change them regularly. The main settings I use are the reverb type (I normally use Small Hall or Live) and then adjust the reverb effect and reverb time on there. I like a lot of reverb if I can - as much as I can get away with, until the notes start bleeding together. When it gets muddy I bring it back a bit. It depends on the piece. If it's slow, I'll saturate it in reverb. I do play around with the virtual settings too, but only after I've got the piano type and reverb in the right area first. Hope that helps.

Your thumbnail design is really amazing. How long after you started playing could you do a piece like this?
@AdamFearnPiano10 ай бұрын
Thanks. I started learning piano as an adult in 2018, but I did already know how to read music (not particularly well!) from when I was a kid, which definitely helps. In my opinion, half of the effort gets you playing 90% of the piece. It takes double the effort again for the final 10%. Getting the feeling right is at least as important as hitting the right notes in the right order.

How did you learn how to play the piano? Any resources you would recommend? Sincerely, melancholic piano listener
@AdamFearnPiano Жыл бұрын
I had some keyboard lessons in the late 80s when keyboards were cool. I learned all the bangers, like You Are My Sunshine and that sort of thing, so I quickly grew tired of it. In 1991 Nirvana came out, so my keyboard was traded for an electric guitar and that was that. I had learned up to grade 5 on it before I jacked it in. Then I had a gap of around 20 years, and like any right-thinking man, I developed a hankering for playing deeply miserable piano. I bought a digital piano and then taught myself to play pieces that I *wanted* to play, and it's been really cathartic and enjoyable, in a mopey kind of way. I'm not that familiar with any of the modern online or app based resources to be honest. As boring as music theory might be, I'm not sure it's possible to shortcut it. Others may be better informed than me, but I think learning a few scales, reading sheet music, and playing dreadful pieces like You Are My Sunshine are something of a rite of passage and a necessary evil. Sorry that's not the answer you probably wanted. Good luck!

Adam, can I ask why you chose the ES920 over say a Kawai CA49?
@AdamFearnPiano Жыл бұрын
Sure, I needed it to be portable as I don't have room in the house for a permanent piano currently. It had to be something I could put away straightforwardly. Having said that, I've since had my ES920 integrated into my work desk, so I can just open or close the lid to switch between a desk and a piano. www.reddit.com/r/piano/comments/tx3w5e/home_office_piano/?
@Letstidytogether Жыл бұрын
@@AdamFearnPiano thank you Adam. I do have the space for a larger piano so now I am torn between the CA49 and the ES920. The CA49 does not have a line in/out option for ease of recording later on down the road so I am currently researching how to navigate around that as my local piano shop has a very good deal on a white CA49 that is now a discontinued model.
@Letstidytogether Жыл бұрын
I’m curious what your first keyboard/piano was in 2018?
@AdamFearnPiano Жыл бұрын
Hey Christine, it was a Roland FP-30 at the time. I wanted something affordable, small and portable so that I could put it away afterwards. I didn't have the space for a piano then. In fact, I still don't. I've since integrated the Kawai ES920 into a desk so that I can switch between work and piano by opening the lid.
@Letstidytogether Жыл бұрын
@@AdamFearnPiano amazing, I have the FP30 now. I have played for a couple years, thought not at your level yet and I wonder when I can justify the upgrade. I hate the sound from the speakers now so I only play with headphones. It is between the ES920 or a Yamaha P515
@AdamFearnPiano Жыл бұрын
@@Letstidytogether I was in the same boat. I could get it to sound alright with headphones, but the speakers and line out really limited the sound. I've had the Kawai for quite a while now and I still like it. The sounds are really malleable and expansive.

@@AdamFearnPiano yes I can’t stand playing without my headphones. It is very uninspiring. It is also such a huge decision but I have heard so many great things about the ES920. How do you find the action to be compared to your Roland FP30?
