Nice! I'm a sucker for campaign diaries since I find actual plays too slow to watch. I would not have thought to leave the players with such a long period of time for self-directed activity, but it seems to have worked out great! Lots of drama going on. :)

This is by NO means a Draw Steel idea, I implemented this 4 years ago in my TTRPG system based on inspiration from M&L and many others TTRPG’s that use a no-miss Tier system. It’s normally referred to as ‘Base Damage’ for minimal tier damage along with systems that implement ‘Scathe Damage’ so that you always do some damage. Wake me up when they learn how to break away from D&D by getting rid of basic player action’s & bonus action economy system’s; they came close with the tried & true ‘resource system’ but missed the marker cause they’re still stuck in the perpetual TTRPG player action economies. They got good ideas but it’s by no means ever some game breaking original idea. Other than renaming thing’s, Draw Steel took that matchbox from other TTRPG’s, not the other way around along with all their other game mechanic’s being linked to other wonderful game system’s. I invite you to sign an NDA with me if you want to see some actual out of the TTRPG box thinking if you think this is what needs matched… x)
@DontShoutMimic21 күн бұрын
@@9HPRuneScape yeah like most RPG’s all of the mechanics aren’t wholly original but it is the first we’d played as a group with a tier system that guarantees minimum damage. We’ve found it a very refreshing experience coming from years of dnd and the established world and character creation process has been a real pleasure to explore. Like you’ve alluded to there’s lots out there that’s more mechanically removed from dnd but we’ve found Draw Steel still feels like a unique experience with our RPG background and I think a lot of groups would feel the same. Or at least I hope so as we’ve certainly been having a great time! Good luck with developing your system, that’s very exciting! - Courtney

@@DontShoutMimic All those points I’d agree with; I was referring to how the video was titled and projected as if “Is any other TTRPG systems going to get on Draw Steels level” when their current mechanics are mostly older TTRPG’s that they’ve fused together but renamed; thus, that aspect of the video is simply not the case imo.

Good lighting and clarity, but the audio is pretty low. Peeking at OBS it's showing an average around -30 db. That's going to be very hard for people to hear who are on mobile. Remember too DH is designed so you can do whatever. You, as the GM, CAN still make the world and everything in it if you want to. The core design of DH though is so that you 'share the burden'. That can greatly reduce the amount of prep time the GM needs to do. Also DH is aimed at a more TTRPG new player/GM, so sharing that load not only helps speed up things to get to the actual playing of the thing, but it makes it specific to that group, as well as incorporating ideas from, hopefully, everyone, so everyone feels included in making this thing what it is. Even if you use a premade setting with modules (like there were 2 in the beta material so far) your group's playthrough will be different from someone else's due to those open ended segments. As opposed to something like a D&D game which says this is X, that is Y, and groups playing will have far fewer differences between them. We may yet see an Exandria setting with DH, but I'm betting we won't. It's their own new system, with their own new world. I think we will see a restart of a new world setting they will be playing in when they do the December live stream. They probably won't carry the characters over since they will be, I think, randomly created for the stream, but I'd put high bets that will be the world/setting they use for whatever DH campaign they start following it. Also, I'd bet a big part of not using it is to be their own thing. Exandria started in Pathfinder and then moved into D&D, so there's an association with those game systems. For that reason alone I think they will want to avoid it. (And I wouldn't be surprised if even print material differs from D&D and Pathfinder layout and 'trade dressing', like the typical parchment colored pages you see with those.)

Hello! Courtney here. First of all thank you for the audio advice, we are still learning and it’s much appreciated. Figured we didn’t want to stop putting out content in the meantime😊 Im quite excited about the shared worldbuilding and you make some great points, very much looking forward to seeing what different groups end up coming up with and the difference that may have on the kind of stories they tell and the adventures that unfold😮 I can see why it’s not for everyone but we’re gonna try and win over ol Sam here 😂 We’re planning on checking back in once we start playing and really get a chance to experience gameplay with the shared worldbuilding at its core! I also agree with you, I’m in love with Exandria and there’s definitely still stories to tell (and threads I hope we get wrapped up) but I believe they’ll start fresh and highlight this more unique aspect of the RPG (at least in terms of the most popular within the space rn) when the new stream begins. Very exciting stuff either way! 😊🎲

I wasted too much time trying to prep everything, and it definitely took away from opportunities I had to run games, especially when you add in the amount of time I thought I had to take to create everyone's characters. Anything that can speed up the process is always better if it results in actual *play* time. And this book looks great. Wish I'd had one-shots when I started. Less waste = more fun. Also, your audio is fine.

In Draw Steel, health is replaced by Stamina. So hitting is actually only "real" when the opponent runs out of stamina. The rest of your hits represent wearing the opponent's stamina down - the better you do on your attack, the more it takes out of them to block/dodge/resist/ward. Imagine a kung fu fight; every punch lands on their body, or requires them to work hard to dodge, but only one hit actually overhelms them enough to knock them out.
@Ciran872 ай бұрын
I think this all depends on what kind of a game you're playing; if missing serves the feel of the game, such as survival horror, where a single missed attack can mean life or death for not only you, but potentially the entire party, then sure. But in at least 5e, and several other games I have played, the party has so much health and healing options that a missed attack is primarily just a turn where nothing happens and, frankly, that's boring. Also, just to clarify, they only apply this for combat; you can still miss skill checks and such, they just want to make sure that every person's turn is advancing combat, if only a little bit.
@DontShoutMimic2 ай бұрын
