I worked at the exploratorium from '98 to 00, sometimes we would have these little breakout sessions before work, and I learnt what it was made out of. After the '06 earthquake, all the rubble including the steel was moved to the marina because it was a landfill, they had all this material to save cost, they utilized it. It's true what you said that it had gone through renovations, but the initial bedrock if you will was from the '06 earthquake.

@@xellbe I was explainer, best first job ever. I wish it was still at the palace of fine arts, but Dar, who was one Frank's first hires for the explainer program she was my manager. But she left in '03, we also got to meet the Princess of Thailand, she was a big supporter of STEM education. I also got to be at the drawing board when Robin Williams brought his daughter Zelda to the exploratorium. We weren't allowed to talk to him, but I got to see a rare sight of him not being switched on, but simply being a dad.

@@petz415 OMG! This is such a small world. I hadn't worked with Dar (I became a HS explainer back in 09) but I know of Dar. I wonder if you were at the museum the same time my managers were involved with the Explainer program!

@xellbe I may have been! Fernando was an explainer and he got promoted as assistant manager when I was still a freshman ('98) I think Evan left, but he was also an explainer but became a manager too! It's indeed a very small world, but I'm not surprised, this is San Francisco after all 😀 once an explainer, always an explainer, I'll be doing a vlog at the exploratorium soon, so maybe our paths will cross!

that was the excuse my friends used to give me when I wanted to go clubbing out there, but you know its beauty has its redeeming qualities, I have lovely memories spending time out there with my parents, I don't think my childhood was pretentious, I'm far from being a snob, but I do like to act like one in plays and shorts :)

Oh! I can't wait to try them, I will be back in the UK next thanksgiving, but I'll have my family ship some over to me :)

it was such a treat when my parents used to take me there and let me roam free at the exploratorium or take me to one of the toy shops at Pier 39, good memories indeed :D

Thanks for sharing Rik, I loved the TMNT too, Shredder and Krang were my favourites, I loved when they argued lol. Krang always had the best one liners, I remember those Amiibos, I never got into them, but YoMama brought back a memory when you would go to the video game section, you would have to get the ticket to get the game. I remember being on the verge of tears when they sold out of Super Mario Bros 3. I had rare blood disorder growing up (I grew out of it) but I would have to get bloods drawn every week, I was scared of needles, I think my mother felt bad, we would either go to ToyRus or there was this indy story King Normans, that store was stacked with toys right to the top of the ceiling. I get sentimental when I pass by the old storefront, its now an Asian produce market. I do miss the Toys R us storefronts too, I hope the satellite stores can help continue the great legacy it once was.

Just like you, I remember when they first came out and I wasn't interested, then my friend introduced me to the tiger stripe one (which is my favourite) but this alright, I was intrigue by the "dirty" in the name. I'm not close to the fires because they are in SoCal, but keeping an eye on the air quality, its crazy right now what's going on down there.

Sometimes they use the excuse "people's taste has changed" Last Easter I believe, for a few years they had these four chocolate eggs in an egg carton with a little spoon. You cracked the top of the egg and it had some luscious chocolate mousse. But it's been buried in Cadbury graveyard! I feel you on the fragrances, Burberry didn't discontinue mine, but changed it, it's just not the same.

Thank you so much Ugga, you know whether I make the goal or not, I'm getting out there, that's what I want to project, we don't have to showcase our "perfect" lives on social media, it would be silly of me to only show the walks where I hit the daily step target I set for myself. I just love doing it, and knowing there are people like you who may not be able to get out are enjoying it - that gives me great pride and responsiblity to keep doing this type of content.

@ lower and midtown were my favorite spots. So much of what I used to enjoy is gone now sadly, especially in regard to the cool stops in Chinatown. I also gotta mention Bay Ridge and Coney Island in the mix as well.
