So many unanswered questions here. What if your powder coating jewelry for instance, would you powder coat that or would it make the finished product pitted or orange peel looking? You mentioned using a primer which I've never used when powder coating, is this again suitable for smaller fine detailed jobs?

Well that helps me because I'm getting a bike frame sand blasted and powder coated, and I just remembered the rear triangle was off a few millimeters. I was worried I'd crack the powdercoat by bending it a little. Apparently not.

I agree that this is the preferred method but it is absolutely not necessary for good adhesion

This is a lie! You don't NEED to sandblast and prime everything.. With a simple soap and phosfate wash you can still get things to last 20 years. Sandblasting and priming is better, but not a must.

You're right. Etching with phosphate does work!

Sandblasting is better, if you coat over mill scale, it want last.

Hs85dk, how many of those powder coats that you did at least 20 years ago you are still checking to see that they withstand the weather, abuse, and environment that they have been under? Or, are just assuming that?

Hope you're still around you seem knowledgeable on this and I've just started in the job, I've just had a load of sandblasted stuff come through, The first lot I rubbed down and wiped with thinners undercoated then colour and the surface was gritty turned out to be fibres of the cloth, now rub down/ blow off and spray with thinners and get a good finish, is that right or should I just blow off and powder over sandblasting? Does it spike through?
