He's not the first male RTH to kill the offspring. It's their world & how things go sometimes. Tom did better the second hatch and became a really great provider. There were 2 bald eagle nests this season that the first time males killed the eaglets. Even the second ones that hatched... it didn't matter.

Go mom!!👏🏻👏🏻🥰🦅 I really am not understanding dad as to why when he brings in good that he is eating all of it when he should be feeding the kids and not his beak/mouth.🤨🤔. Mom was not messing around and she was showing her mate that she was meaning business and the babies are to be fed. Mom, you truly rock! I’d say, mom of the month for sure.👏🏻👏🏻🥰❤️🦅🙏🥳👍🏻❌⭕️❌⭕️

I like it when Baker stands up to Bette, it shows how tough he is and devoted he is to his family. Baker doesn't eat all the food but when and what he does eat... it's out of necessity. Dad has to eat & stay healthy, they do most of the providing. I've seen Bette eat her fair share too. The day after this video, Baker did quite a lot of feeding while Bette sat on the MB. Did you see my video from 5/12? Baker brought in a duck, fed the kids (especially LM7) then left it there for Bette. She came in after he had left that morning with a half eaten fish. She fed the kids what was left of it & some duck. They all ate pretty good Mother's Day thanks to Baker. Baker has done one heck of a job providing for his family. I also say Baker is why little LM7 who is 5 days behind LM5 survived. LM5 wasn't letting him eat but Baker made sure at times he was fed. There were times LM7 didn't get anything to eat. LM6 never picked on LM7, LM6 got picked on but not as bad being one day behind. Baker put a lid on LM5 picking on LM7 one morning. There wasn't any food but Baker did a mock feeding then sat on and started brooding them until Bette returned. Whether Baker eats at the nest or not... I just hope that food stays in abundance for this family.

I've seen Bette eat her fair share as well. A lot of males will eat part of the prey first before they bring it in. Baker doesn't do that, he brings in the whole fish. The adults have to eat too and how it works. They have to be healthy for their offspring to survive. If food becomes very scarce the adults will do what they have to do to live to reproduce again. Baker has done a heck of a job providing for 3 eaglets so far.
@amg30219 ай бұрын
Yes he has. I know they have to eat as well, and I've seen other nests where the adult comes in with a full crop, AND a big fish. Just pointing out what Mom might have been thinking, with 3 squeezing babies, teenagers by now.

After observing this tragic incident repeating this morning, Scout seems to be a slow learner compared to other eagles. He doesn't understand the purpose of pairing with Bella. Bella hasn't been persistent enough to stop him from taking the fish she brought in the evening of April 11. If Bella had been more persistent or even more fierce when Scout was taking food from the nest, he could have figured out he was not supposed to take food from Bella. And then gradually he would know he needs to hunt and bring food to the nest.
@juwei22619 ай бұрын
Scout needs to learn he should be the food provider for Bella first, and then gradually learn raising offspring by watching Bella. Bella has been way too tolerant of his behavior.
@uwohaliproductions56249 ай бұрын
This male showed no paternal instincts what-so-ever other than incubating. When he arrived this morning he saw Bella brooding the eaglet. But instead he demonstrated his opportunity to take an easy prey. You're correct, Bella made a big mistake letting him take her fish. She stopped him once and gave him warnings but she didn't take control. When he came in this morning without any food... Did Bella leave to go hunt or it was her break time & his to brood. This nest has seen a lot of tragedy in the past as well & it is a shame it ended like this.
@uwohaliproductions56249 ай бұрын
Sorry, your comment was held for review & I didn't know. Apparently Bella doesn't know how to teach this new male. She had Smitty who was already experienced & more so than she was when she replaced Belle. Bella didn't change her routine one bit from with Smitty. I've seen females with long term mates control the nest & food more than she did. This male didn't see the eaglets as offspring but as easy prey. No food in the nest... hey here's something to eat.

Update... The male killed the eaglet this morning (4/12) after Bella left. When Bella displaced the original resident female Belle in 2018, she had Smitty an experienced mate. More so than she was. JMO... The routine that Bella displayed was like she did with Smitty. When Smitty came in it was her break time & he would tend to the nesting duties. That's what happened here. When her new mate came in... it was her break time. He saw Bella brooding the eaglets especially #2. When he came in there was nothing to eat and went straight to the eaglet. He didn't see #2 as his offspring but as easy prey.

He killed the baby eaglet?! How did he do that? That's awful. She spent time just to have a baby eaglet. Bad enough that there two eaglets that died already. One died when it was hatching and other died after it got injured and it was already a few months old. It makes me sad that eaglets are dying and not having a chance to live their full potential.

This young male is Bella's new mate & his first nesting season. He was very confused & you can see that in my video. Bella did a feeding, left the nest & her eaglet unattended. Not everything is controlled /accomplished by instinct. These young males have to learn and that's done through the females. By their actions... feeding, nurturing & protecting the offspring. Still there's no guarantees... accidents & death will still happen even through siblicide & starvation. For any bird just to hatch... is a very complex procedure.

Hi Sue... I'm sorry for the confusion but this is a video from 2023. E7 was named Jefferson & grew up to be a very strong & healthy eagle. Bella had foot & head injuries and she did heal up on her own. Bella has a new mate this year, sadly Smitty was displaced last year. The last time I saw Smitty at the nest was on Nov. 1, 2023. He had head injuries that were healing up. There were 4 males seen competing for the nest. Her new mate is around 5 1/2 - 6 1/2 yrs old, a really strong & intelligent eagle. Bella laid 3 eggs this year but something happened to one of them. If #1 is viable it should hatch the 1st week of April. Egg #1 will be at 35 days old on April 2. I'll have a video / video(s) when they hatch.
