Hi Kat! I just found you on youtube because I am currently enthralled with buttons! Mostly using them to make button flowers and other things. I also volunteer at a local thrift shop and am part of the pricing team so I think you will be able to help educate me on the value of things also. BUT in watching this video I see in the background that you have a cup holding pens etc that is the shape of a VW peace bus. I have the EXACT same thing in my desk area also! So happy to have found your content and look forward to watching, and learning from you. Peace, Sue

😂 I just found one of those half hooked pennies this week in my pile of buttons. We need to investigate those. The date on mine is also not visible.

Love buttons! When we were little in the early 1960s, my Grandmother would entertain us on rainy day by placing us at the kitchen table with her old cookie jar that was full of buttons. They were so beautiful and intricate. Of course back then the Sears catalogs actually came with fabric swatches next the the clothes photos.

Jet black is actually just called jet and as in the coal family

Sorry but these glass buttons are not "jet" they are black glass. Jet is an entirely different material. Some refer to black glass beads and buttons as "French Jet"..True jet is a semi precious stone and is very rare. Also known as "lignite".

I used to be an eBay powerseller and remember how much money vintage sewing stuff made and if you don't already know yarn lots make loads of money! I got my stuff by coming with something else I bidding on in a aution lot. Best things of value end up by accident that shocks us 😀

I appreciate your willingness to share the tips and information that you have learned from your experience. Keep those awesome hippie fabrics because they are so cool and hard to find. It's like money in the bank , for sure.

Hi Kate, I have collected vintage and antique buttons for over 20 years and I am looking to sell them. I am not interested in listing them on ebay or etsy as there are 1000's of them. Do you know anyone that.might be interested in buying a huge lot of buttons? I spent over $1000.00 during my frenetic button buying days and would, now, like to recoup my money ( not to mention my space)

I have been looking for something to replace bookselling, which I have done for 20 yrs and am burned out on it - lugging books takes a toll on back, shoulders etc. I just recently started collecting fabrics from local thrift stores, and you were super informative. THANK YOU!

Thank you for the great video. I started collecting post cards and will eventually sell some on eBay. RPPC = Real Photo Post cards, thank you for the HTL = Hold to light tip. I prefer RPPC and used sent post cards with post office cancellations. The stories/ messages on the back are great. Today I read a story of a boy writing his Grandma telling her about how the pox makes his throat itch and he has to eat oatmeal.
