Nice list, I'd also throw in the Stooges debut. Supremely influential proto-punk rock.
@noname-ll2vk4 күн бұрын
Agreed. To me greatness should include influencing the coming generations. Several of his picks totally fail in that regard. I'm into that era and I'd never heard of them. It's hard to argue Abbey Road and Neil Young but Soft Parade wasn't that impressive. But he should have picked just one Zeppelin album. Probably II because 1 is derivative, as he correctly said. Definitely Stooges. Even though I'm not a huge fan of prog, King Crimson i think mattered more. Although obscure, Pink Floyd's More to me was one of their all time best albums. It's the one I used to play people who hated Pink Floyd because it was so much harder and heavier than their following stuff. 1969 was an odd year because the 60s bands were mostly passing their peaks so the albums that mattered most were seeds of the future I think.
@nikosmusicmojo4753 күн бұрын
ya i agree with the influential part, I just dont think the music is good. I dont see any talent in the songwriting, singing ,melodies, lyrics, guitar, or anything
@noname-ll2vk3 күн бұрын
@@nikosmusicmojo475 that's a case where you don't get what it was doing. It's not practical to really get every type of music, but Stooges was a biggie. In many ways it's comparable to the first Sabbath album. It was like a wake up call, a door into a future that was right around the corner. Very much like the velvet underground except coming from a very different and much more eaw and powerful place. That's one to crank on a serious sound system, not headphone music, it hits your gut. More than I'd say any of the listed selections .
@nikosmusicmojo4753 күн бұрын
@ ya i get it has energy and attitude and stuff I just dont see any good music on there like Sabbath, Velvet Underground, Zeppelin, ACDC
@noname-ll2vk3 күн бұрын
@@nikosmusicmojo475 just for perspective I'd rather have Stooges than ACDC and Zeppelin. Don't even own any of those stadium rock bands today. I had the first Zeppelin record and enjoyed some songs from others but never felt any need to own them. Stadium rock was interesting because it was designed to sound good on the fairly basic big new sound systems of the 70s. Similar to how rap was designed to sound good on big car sound systems but doesn't sound as good anywhere else. ACDC I never had any interest to own or hear an album at all. They got played on radio enough. Probably because I was listening to much better underground stuff so acdc and Zeppelin to me were these odd big mainstream bands that I never found interesting. I always feel like I should try but then get the next wave of great underground bands and the idea fades. Even more oddly it was only much later that I started to get what Sabbath was doing. Then I started to get what their musical offspring were doing. Which are now much of the new music I listen to today. But I still get a shiver down my spine when I hear the pre bowie influenced Stooges. It's hard to not like the Velvets but objectively Lou Reed's ultra simple chord ideas are nice but seem better suited to drifting into a heroine nod than the primal energy captured by the Stooges.
