Yeah Halo Reach really showed you just how bad humanity was getting screwed by the Covenant. The death of Noble Team really made it personal and I'm certain most people who played as Master Chief afterwards were much more aggressive to the Covenant. I would be.

Finished on legendary. On Nightfall, that sniper and pistol last you half to 3/4 of the mission if you make every shot count. Patience and precision are the key to finishing these games solo on higher difficulties. Magnum, DMR, AR, needle rifle and sniper were honestly my only firearms while on legendary. Heads up, Long Night of Solace is nearly impossible on legendary. It's literally like space battle D-Day---whether you're by yourself or in co-op, you'll only be able to complete it by sheer luck. After 2 separate sit-downs and nearly 3+ hours of trying different tactics and simply getting lucky positioning at periodic checkpoints, I finally got passed this mission. It is the make or break point of Reach on Heroic/Legendary.

the trick to long night of solstice is flying behind cover and making sure you stay close to something you can fly behind on that 3rd wave that you start getting beat on out of nowhere

In the canon, if I remember correctly, Noble 6 fought for at least 8 hours non-stop, by the time he died his armor was around 80% damaged. I believe that by that point his armor was just dead-weight.
