I really enjoyed this podcast and watched it whilst knitting my third Meet Cute cowl. It's such a fantastic pattern! Those planners look amazing, and I just checked and they ship to the UK. Whoop whoop! I'm now off to research some books on dealing with resistance as I have a major problem with it 😂

Hi Laura, I’m so glad you enjoyed the episode. You’ve knit three Meet Cute Cowls, that’s amazing. It’s a really fun pattern for combining colors and yarns, right? If you get a Laurel Denise planner I hope you love it. The one book I’ve read specifically about resistance is called The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. It was an incredible read. I should read it again. Everyone struggles with resistance, every day. After I read the book I blamed myself less for this very real phenomenon. Happy knitting, planning, and reading!

@victoriouswool Hi Victoria. Thank you so much for your reply and for telling me the name of the book. I have started reading it and believe it will be a game changer. Yes, I really love your cowl pattern. I actually have the yarn ready for a fourth one (so that I will have one to match all my usual outfit choices) but I was half way through my first pair of socks when I fell down the Meet Cute rabbit hole, so have dropped back onto them before I forget everything I was taught!

@victoriouswool Yes, very happy to share why I have made three Meet Cute cowls, with plans to make more: 1) I love how snuggly it fits around my neck, and the brioche sections add extra warmth. I haven't made any modifications as the fit is perfect. It keeps out all the draughts, which other cowls have failed to do, 2) The interplay of colours in the brioche sections looks gorgeous and the two sections sit just right when worn, and 3) I think seed stitch is beautiful 😍

Right! I feel like I can say that now that I have finished a lot of things and then not warn them. Which is okay, it’s not a tragedy to not wear a handknit thing. But if I am debating whether to put in the time on something, I have experience to drawn on and know my taste better, and hopefully make better decisions. Making to make is important. Finishing is important. Allowing myself to change my mind is important. There’s not ideal state to be making it, I guess is what I’m thinking.

That's awesome! We knitters get so bogged down by older projects. It's become so rewarding for me to finish things. I dare to say it's more fun to finish than to start them. I have more projects right now than I've had all year, and ugh, the stress. I wish you many completions in the future!

I would love to have the luxury of having a project that I don’t have to start over. I’m legally blind, learning to knit, and continually have to start over. I can’t see when I drop stitches so I can knit on something for many hours and my husband will notice that a stitch was dropped way back. This just what has to be part of the process for me. I either agree to work with this or just deal with setbacks.

Thank you! As with all the patterns I've knit from European designers, there is a difference in the wording of row directions. I have come across that in BManderines patterns, but I've always been able to figure it out. And I've certainly seen more confusing patterns than hers. So I say cast on what speaks to you and find help along the way if you need it. Don't hesitate to reach out to designers via email with questions as you go. If something really stumps you, pull out a notebook, and write down what you understand and what you don't, what assumptions you have, and possible directions the pattern may be taking you. I find delving into my confusion really helpful, especially on paper. Then choose a path to go down and see what happens. This can make knitting a sweater much more interesting and, when you are successful, much more satisfying. Not to mention how much you'll learn about knitting. I haven't made Offering of Trees, just the Forager, Tulip, Gentle Lopi. I do have the pattern and I'm happy to answer anything I can as you make it.

Thank you for sharing the sweaters! It is good to hear about things that don't work, it helps us learn. ☺️ I really wanted the Boxy Chevron and am just unhappy with the fit. I will most likely frog it because the neckline is way too open. Another problem is my dark yarn bled so much into the light yarn that it changed the color. It is sort of sad to think about the work that went into it coming undone, but it is also a learning experience to make better choices in patterns for me. I'm afraid it will be the same way with the Easy V I'm planning, but I still want to give it a go. Do you plan on frogging or gifting yours?🧶🧶🧶

Thank you for addressing my question I asked on your last episode! I thought about it for a while and think it stems from a big move (from one state to another), starting a new job which is very busy, and all the things that come along with moving w/ kids and trying to establish a household in a new location. After I asked the question, I went to my collection of mini's and they inspired me to work on my cozy memory blanket and it made me feel good again. Knitting in therapy and keeps me lifted. I have sort of lost my knitting mojo and was looking for a worsted weight sweater pattern. I was looking at the Easy V right when you were talking about it here. I thought that was a sign, but I haven't done a color work sweater yet and am a bit intimidated. Also, it didn't call to me like I would like. Where do you find your knitting mojo when you misplace it? 🧶🧶🧶
@victoriouswool
@victoriouswool 2 жыл бұрын
That's a great questions. I've been mulling it over and think it's important to know why I lost my knitting mojo. I was knitting for work and got burnt out. I then added another hobby and put a lot of time into that instead. I also went through a year of not buying yarn which resulted in less of a rush to finish things and cast-on new things. I felt less pressured, which ultimately was good. How I got it back is a less clear, but choosing projects and yarns that you really makes sense. If Easy V isn't calling to you, then maybe there's something else that could get the creativity going. I still knit when I wasn't as interested, projects just took longer. I may have prolonged the lack of enthusiasm by knitting lack luster projects. I made more practical knits than fun ones, etc. Maybe it's a bit like a cat, if you ignore it and keep up a creative practice, the knitting mojo will come find you. I may talk about my ideas on this in the next episode. Very interesting to think about how to care for ones creative energy. Thanks for asking! Let me know if you make a discovery or get into a great project. In general, Boylandknitworks colorwork sweaters are well written and pretty fun. 💕

The seasons only affect the colours I am drawn to, not the types of projects I choose. I can knit sweaters or socks all year. I don't typically knit cotton or plant based summery projects. I have only tried a tee in Lindy Chain once, and it got frogged. I think you should design when inspiration strikes, and then release it when it's done, or release it the next summer if you want to stay seasonally tied. Slow fashion can be, that slow, if we want it to. We all have our own makers pace. And maybe you might enjoy working in a duo season cycle on things. 🍵

@@victoriouswool I'm glad to hear she is doing well! Strangely, my mom broke her arm recently and has been recovering from that as well. I don't get to see her often due to not living close enough, but will be seeing her next weekend. ☺️

@@tracitravis8037 Oh that is strange. Having a broken bone is much better than so many other things. I hope she has a quick and successful recovery. 💕
