What a haul!! That kids table and chairs was an absolute unbelievable price. My Goodwill in Oklahoma doesn’t have nearly the good prices as yours 😫 mine also does not carry regular furniture, although once in a while you can find a side table or something small.😢 i’ll definitely be looking forward to what decide to do with everything. I really like that wire basket, I can see blankets rolled up and stored in that or towels. Have a great week! Jackie C

Right? I couldn’t believe the deal I got on that set! That Goodwill has a really small area for furniture, so it is usually priced to sell but not usually that low! I am hearing that a lot of Goodwills are no longer carrying furniture...what a bummer. These pieces will be fun to redo! Thanks, Jackie!

Awesome! The sponge is fantastic for getting nice, thin and even coverage. If you cut either side straight instead of using it round, it’s even easier to handle and apply! ❤

I FINALLY got to this point in my TV cabinet Vintage mahogany took 3 coats of Boss and 3 coats of fluff - before I had all the Boss coats I had to walk away because I was about to set the thing on fire - glad I didn’t Applied my satin clear with the wonderful blue sponge - jus have to install my knobs and it’s moving to my sewing studio for storage - thank you for your tips along the way - I subscribed 3 years ago and watch every new episode - so fond of your “smalls”

Thank you, Kathy! I’m so glad you didn’t set it on fire lol! With the boss, proper dry time is the key to making that work well so just allow it to dry for a day or so and you should only need one coat. It’s OK if pink comes through that boss layer as it shouldn’t come through the paint once it has been given enough dry time. Just for next time! I’m so glad you loved your entries result! ❤

For those concerned, spraying Scotch Guard on top of fabric would keep it clean and protect it longer. Use a damp cloth to wipe whenever needed. (Works wonders on cloth furniture.)

I'm painting my kitchen table and 4 chairs in cotton (chalk). Do I need to seal them or can I just sand lightly. I use placemats on the table to protect from spills. Thanks so much!
@ChristyJames
@ChristyJames Жыл бұрын
Hi Ruth! You definitely want to seal it. I recommend Gator Hide as it is water repellant and a super tough topcoat with no yellowing when you apply it with the blue sponge applicator. You may find my tutorial on how to paint a kitchen table over on my blog helpful: www.confessionsofaserialdiyer.com/how-to-paint-a-kitchen-table/ Good luck!

How do they clean it when you mod podge it?
@ChristyJames
@ChristyJames Жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl! I did use lighter fabric on this one, but I usually choose a darker, more forgiving fabric. A drawer in an end table like this shouldn’t get too dirty through. You can always spot clean and if you even need to replace the fabric, it pulls out pretty easily.

This is probably a stupid question but I do have the mahogany antique entryway table and I want to stain the top and paint the bottom just like you’ve been doing with your furniture can I use Dixie bells, clear boss and then stain over the top of that?
@ChristyJames
@ChristyJames Жыл бұрын
Hi Cheryl! Bleedthrough is not an issue if you plan to stain. You would want to either sand the top to the original wood finish or use a stripper to get it back to the original wood, and then go right to staining. Follow up with a water-based sealer once the stain has had about three days to dry. I hope that helps!

Hi Christy, I just love your channel and everything you do with old pieces of furniture and boxes etc. I originally saw your projects on Pinterest, and I've been hooked ever since! I signed up to receive your '30 DIY Projects' and they've been really helpful, especially your instructions on how to paint even stripes onto a box because I'm making a jewellery box for a friend of mine and I decided to paint the outside in grey and white stripes, and then line the inside with padded velvet in black. Well, the first lot of stripes were all wonky so I painted over them and started again! And this time, with your help, they were fine and the jewellery box turned out really well, especially considering how it looked before!😅 So thank you for all your help. Love from Amanda Jones in Melbourne, Australia

@@ChristyJamesThank you so much for replying to my comment Christy. My friend Marie did indeed love the jewellery box, so that was great. I make jewellery myself at home but I like to do different projects as well so I don't get stuck in a rut. I did the jewellery box because I was having a mental block with my jewellery making, and if I do something different it really helps to get rid of the block, if you know what I mean.

WOW!!! I have about 25-30 Christmas houses - but yours are SO COOL! Are they a particular brand/maker? Mine are all Pleasantville, and I've displayed them on a "ledge" created when we took out half a wall. (Also have to put some on a sofa table and, bottoms of coffee tables.) Now I'm on the hunt for a dresser! Do you put the drawers back in after Christmas? I wonder if I could create front panels that could stick somehow - and then at least the houses could stay put all year and not have to be all boxed up again and again?!
@ChristyJames
@ChristyJames Жыл бұрын
Hi Jeanne! Mine are all different makers that I’ve collected over the years from various places. This dresser lives in my office to house supplies, so I store the drawers away during the holidays and put them back after. It has been a great way to display them without taking up additional space! 💕

Do the edges first? Sand between coats?
@ChristyJames
@ChristyJames Жыл бұрын
Hi! I usually do the edge I start on then do the sides as I go. You can do them all first or after as long as you avoid going back over an area that is drying with a wet sponge, if that makes sense. There is no need to sand in between coats.
