welcome Hailemaryam, kindly subscribe Actually it is true tat victoria is not the origin name of this lake, western people did naming to everything including people, we ware not our name. they meant to turn us upside down. here is the origin name and names according to location Lake Victoria's original name was Ukerewe, which was used by the African people who lived in the area. The lake also has other name in local language : Nyanza In 1858, British explorer John Hanning Speke renamed the lake after Queen Victoria of England. Speke was searching for the source of the Nile River when he discovered the lake. His claim that Lake Victoria was the source of the Nile caused debate in the scientific community at the time. Some African people are calling for the lake to be renamed back to its original name or to have a new African name chosen
