Well done. Now to do the Evansville bypass, the new Ohio River bridge and Kentucky hooking up to US 41 over there.

So… all in all, there’s no point in opening the ramps as it leads to more construction. Whew 😆 this is insane. Indiana moves soooo slow with these projects. Texas however, they’re a beast at building roads and they move soo fast. Texas would have had this complete within a couple of months to a year.
@stansifer703 ай бұрын
So Texas could have built the interstate from Evansville to Indianapolis in a year? I seriously doubt that. There’s portions of I-69 still being built in Texas. Why don’t they it done? At least Indiana will be completely done around the end of the year.
@AntJWarren3 ай бұрын
Hillarious statement. Check the Wikipedia entry I69 in Texas. Work began in 2015 as of today, 75 miles have been completed! 10 years...75 miles. Thats Texas!

It seems like Texas is moving city by city, creating bypass after bypass that is up to interstate standards.. instead of doing everything at once? They seem to be doing that with I-2 as well, and hey, I’ll take it over nothing 🤷🏾♂️

Awesome. Been traveling to Memphis several times every year for the past 40 years.Sure beats going I-70 / I-57, I-55! Could use a rest park between Bloomington and Evansville, a long strech with limited services, though in time I'm sure it will grow. Again, so glad this is completed. Now to get the new bridge built at Evansville to fully finish the I-69 connection with Kentucky.

This is awesome. They were talking about this freeway back in the 80's, when I was in my 20's. It is almost completely done now and I'm 65.

Fun fact - I-69 runs just past Muncie Indiana - home of Ball State University! Another fun fact - Ball State has hosted at least one basketball game with Morehead College from Kentucky. "Morehead @ Ball State" !

Later this year, the remaining of I-69 between IN-144 and I-465, south of Indianapolis Indiana will be complete, making the second state to finish I-69, Michigan is the other. Kentucky will be the third state to finish I-69, except for the Ohio River Bridge between south of Evansville Indiana and Henderson Kentucky.

As an aside, all that heavy equipment is powered by diesel and always will be. That is, it will never be battery electric. That idea is absurd. For several reasons.

Then in my thoughts I look at our Indiana map now and imagine what it really could be once they finally pencil that last section of I-69 into the mainstream maps like on the news, weather, etc. My mind goes in 2 directions. 1, it's pretty hard to get to the SE side of Indiana (Madison), so it seems we need another means between I-65 South and I-74 South. Then I applaud the state for taking US-31 to Interstate standards so that one could drive directly north/south through the state. Then I think about I-465 and how it's mostly become landlocked now. Unless we can make I-465 a double-decker highway, I think it'd be wise for the state to look at building a second loop around to connect more rural and suburban areas to each other and Indy, while giving more development opportunity to rural areas that really could use the extra tax income. Then I think of what "another I-465" would do in terms of keeping us up with the big BIG cities that have 2, 3 or even 4 loops or more. It's very clustered an not very intitutive from a distribution/logistics standpoint to have to come all the way to Indy to split off to another interstate or direction if say you're going from Chicago to Louisville, when we could have that happen a lot further north and then have them go south and bypass all our tight, less than truck friendly interstate splits. I'm speculating here, but hoping they do something major like this to cut down on major truck traffic on I-465 that will only continue to increase as more multi-million square feet warehouses are built.

How many lanes do you need? The original bridge allows for 5 lanes in each direction with only 3 lanes in use

There will be a new interchange off I-465, and it is exit 5, which is a mile west of IN-37 for I-69 in Indianapolis Indiana.

The number of lanes underneath the bridge seems the same as before, what's changed? Did they make the road width wider?

Replacing the overpass is likely 12-18 months ahead of actual freeway construction. I think it was wise to do it this way to deconflict the work and keeps things less crazy for everyone.
