That's quite a bit of fancy footwork - for a person who might have a mobility issue. Ditto for the overhead twirling of the cane - 'with prejudice'... might be difficult for someone using the cane primarily as a mobility or medical device. I'm a Senior - don't need a cane but thinking of one; I like the CQB grips, IMO.

UK is so much safer than America. As a student in London decades ago, my flat was burglarized (likely an inside job) but I never felt unsafe on the streets. I'd leave the U.S for the UK now if not too old.

I think that depends on where you live in the US or UK. I live in a very safe city in Wisconsin and although I like and carry a cane, a handgun is even better. That isn't an option in the UK. Neither is a pocket knife. I'll agree parts of big cities around the country aren't safe, but that is a common problem with big cities everywhere.

A cane is not a grappling device any more than my BO staff. Keep people without your permission out of your personal space. Senior citizens don't grapple well in most cases.

I'm following this with interest. I'm an 87 Israeli woman, who walks with a cane. Unfortunately terrorists armed with knives aren't unknown. I did Krav Maga training in my late 60s and early 70s and was pretty confident i could take care of myself. Unfortunately since breaking a hip i walk with a cane. So cane defence is what i practise nowadays. It might just give me a sporting chance in a pinch. Even 1 chance in a 1000 is better than no chance.

Sorry to quibble, but isn't it better to grip the cane just below the crook for improved control and less chance of bounce back? I know it works for boththe Horizontal strikes and the figure 8, but may be tough with the helicopter. Good video.

Hi team, I’m John 74 years old with arthritis,dodgy knees, sciatica,and mild lower back pain. I have a martial arts background mainly albeit many years ago in judo,wing chun, free style kick boxing. I live in the Durham area of the north east. I’m self taught in walking stick self defence, why self taught because there are no clubs in my area where I can get training. After 3 years of trying a local jujitsu club took pity on me so I train there with a black belt who is interested in stick fighting but because he can only train every other week I don’t get much training in. So what I know I get from sites like yours. I think katas may be the way to go. I am going to learn this kata and wonder if there are any more and if possibly show the practical application . Keep up the good work, and May the pain always be theirs

There seem to be too many opportunities to drop one of your canes with these approaches. If he grabs the tip of one came with one hand or with both hands swing the other chain around and hit his hand that's holding the cane. That will break his fingers. You have so much reach with a cane that you should use it. You can hit somebody below the waist with a cane just brutally hit a niche in anything. It's extremely difficult to grab something hitting you in the near the shin and if you bend over to dry then you can get hit across the back or in the ribs. You should be very hesitant to hit a person in the head with any kind of an object because that might be fatal and cause a lot more trouble.

NEVER hit a person's head-- unless your VERY LIFE is threatened... and even then- BE SURE.. you can very EASILY kill someone doing that. THe GOOD part of using a cane- is you are NOT likely to "accidentally kill" someone with it - as you might a gun very easily. Head strikes takes that "safely" factor away.. and it's NEVER necessary.

Why don't you just hit him with the cane? By the way, I'm 70 and have been doing FMA for the past 16 years and spar twice a week. If I have a stick or cane that cane wavy thing is useless.

That "swings" wont do anything. Either use the cane like its a saber and hit hard or don't even bother.

With a LITTLE DISTANCE , these MIGHT work-- but if the knife guy is ANY good--- you will NOT see it-- you'll be walking along one minute and DEAD or dying the next and NEVER see the knife. THe can will win there-- WITH distance.. but as I said- in REALITY-- you won't see the knife AT ALL--- you're as good as dead. If the person DOES show you-- you MIGHT survive.. (I have several times- but you ALWAYS get cut)..
@davidwayne9982
@davidwayne9982 Жыл бұрын
With that side swing going first-- a GOOD knife guy will go in and you're DEAD.. You can NOT move it fast enough for that.. BETTER go up center and nut the guy- and then continue to his head-- multiple strike move-- bone on bone hurts- but hickory on bone-- BREAKS the bone- shatters it.. Done correctly- you WILL win...

CANE DOES--- I'm a caner.. (but also have high ranking black belts in 5 arts- including hapkido- which includes cane work also).. and 40 years experience -- Iv'e used cane against knife- and that is the ONLY way I'd do it.. (hint- no matter how GOOD you are-- you'd STILL get cut)..

Hello my black belt brothers from across the pond. Thanks for all the thought provoking videos. You are an inspiration to those of us in the USA who are a part of the Cane Masters community. The simultaneous push pull principles of martial science works brilliantly with the cane since it is a weapon that multiplies the force of a move already. The cane is underestimated yet very powerful and that works to our favor when facing an opponent. Don't get discouraged by the naysayers. We know the truth and power of what we practice, so keep up the good work. Cheers, Sensei Carthel 🥷

I have been attacked and was forced to defend myself.. believe me a determined assailant with knife you are in trouble my friend . Helicopter will invite one knife in your rib.. I have trained with nun chukkas knives whips whatever .. I was talking to someome at a party and i use a cane as I have a dropped foot..disability . It's like trying to fight with one foot nailed to the floor. I swung the cane by the crook as hard as I could It didn't even slow the attacker down he came back I hit again did not slow him down then I bowled over shot onto his head giving 10 staples my cane broke I fell to the floor and got the crap kicked out of me breaking both my wrists.. now I am making a cane with bent metal 8 mm rod inside the crook and a 10mm x300mm threaded rod at the bottom .. I want weight when I hit next time. When I hit it must break shoulders and heads .. one shot. The end of my cane is now 30 mm thick..I don't have the means to steam bend
