I thoroughly enjoyed reading your fascinating and incredibly informative book ,Sprits of the sands. Thank you for your and your colleagues hard work documenting such an important period of British and American military history.

Amazing place, I visit there everytime I'm working in Braunton Burrows. Dont understand why 3 landing craft were blown up back in the 70s or 80s, why would anyone destroy a such historic place for practice? Does anyone know who to contact about cleaning the areas up around the mock landing crafts as they are slowly being overtaken by weeds, moss and trees. These need to be preserved and never forgotten.

Back in the day they could build all the banks by hand but now cannot fill in a smaller section, When the outer bank goes even more I wonder what will happen to the course of the River Caen, though old maps will tell. Some have told me that they reckon they've lost time on the tide at the Quay because of the main breach, lets hope the inner bank holds, I was told was just a soil bank , no clay and stone but could be wrong, The outer banks were much much stronger. At least keeps anyone from building on it lol. Though a pain to push against the tide on any vessel as the water rushes in and out. Though good for fishing. If the inner bank goes, the tide, back in the 1800s was said to just miss The Great Field, though with the apparent sea level rises would probably flood ruining perfect land. Though everyone says I'm wrong haha

Great video that shows just how much the Braunton Countryside Centre is contributing to our awareness of global heating, and the threats to biodiversity, in this wonderful natural environment.

Hi Sorcha! I referenced this virtual conference for one sentence about the north Devon tilting beds.

This was great. I've just got back from hiking along devons coast and took a wild guess that those layers of angled rock had to have been caused by a tectonic event.

So wonderfully educational!! I am soon moving to a home with a larger more rural garden and both my husband and I are excited to attract wildlife into it. Thank you.

Thank you so much for this. Kate is so detailed. Lots of information for me to take away. I got more interested in wildlife in the garden over a year ago as spending a lot of time just watching the wildlife as apposed to just gardening really opened my eyes! In my ignorance, I was one of those gardeners who flicked/picked off insects from my precious plants and who would mow the lawn in the Summer once every 2 weeks. This year, I bought in pollinator plants and grew wildlife plants from seeds with great success. If you plant them, they (bees, butterflies, ladybirds etc) will come 🤗🌈

I thoroughly enjoyed this, thank you for taking the time to share it. I’ve spent the last two years turning my garden into a haven for wildlife and I’ve still got a lot to do, so this was really useful 👍
