@@airlandmarine It was informative, but I have my reservations about its future. The idea of using it in an air-to-mud role as a replacement for the F16 is ridiculous. The ability to simulate other aircraft may have some utility, but it really needs two engines instead of one. I have little faith in Boeing, but I've felt this way for many years. I spent four year of my Air Force career traveling to their Kent, WA facility on a monthly basis to negotiate (argue) with them over an air defense system they were building for the Saudis. This was in the mid-to-late 1980s. I wasn't impressed by their ethics or abilities back then and I'm still not now. They've only gotten worse with age. They used to build solid dependable airplanes, but not anymore, nor can they seem to make a safe and reliable manned rocket. What a sad fate for a former aerospace leader and giant.

@Paladin1873 Glad you enjoyed the video, even if you're not a fan of the aerospace company that it featured. I agree, the T-7 is at risk of being too little too late (hopefully not). As for adaptation for use as a forth-gen equivalent, it's certainly down on power when compared to that of an F-16, but perhaps improved weaponry and new technology such as BriteStorm's Miniature Electronic Warfare System will help offset some of the shortfalls when directly compared to "conventional" forth-gen aircraft? It seems the use-case and desired application for such aircraft is rapidly evolving. Time will tell, but your personal experience and observation that the wheels were coming off at Boing back in the 1980s shows that perhaps their current situation is more deeply rooted in their organization than some would have you believe. At the moment there are many new players on the field that are making old timers like Boeing looks a little outdated in their approach. Hopefully they can turn things around before it's too late.

@@airlandmarine My own two cents worth is that they first started getting into trouble when they strayed from their core strength of building airliners and ventured into fields they were poorly equipped to handle. Their legacy approach to business is top heavy with management and unions. This makes them lethargic and hive minded. It is ill-suited to the rapid development processes now common among many younger, leaner, more agile companies. I don't see Boeing management or its unions changing, so I expect them to continue their downward spiral.

Thanks for your comment @frankiskeens4081. Ongoing problems with the aircraft’s ejection seats have pushed the in-service date back multiple times. With initial operational capability then further delayed after they had apparently sorted the aforementioned issues. The budget justification documents submitted by Boeing do not detail the reason behind the fresh delays. The Air Force did not have a comment on the delay in publication, and Boeing deferred to the Air Force for comment. Some sources state that it’s a parts issue but the exact reason isn’t clear. @airlandmarine
@airlandmarine Ай бұрын
@robertstark8527 Yes, it is surprising. It would seem that these vessels were built at a time when CATOBAR launch systems where close to transitioning from steam powered to electromagnetic (EMALS). Unfortunately that left the Royal Navy in a bit of a pickle as they fell "between" the two technologies, with one close to the end of its life and the other still in development. Even today, the EMALS system as used onboard the USS Gerald R. Ford is prone to failures and is deemed by some as an unreliable launch system. Of course General Atomics will straighten out the kinks, but for now, even in 2024 it's likely that the RN would be equally criticised had they opted for EMALS. I think it was a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't. The question now is, should they consider CATOBAR (EMALS) for the future when the technology can offer greater reliability? In either case, thanks for watching. I hope you enjoyed the video. ~Mike 👍

With a limited defense budget, some argue that the funds could be better used to strengthen other aspects of defense, such as cyber or autonomous drones that are cheaper and easier to maintain. Amid global economic challenges, there are questions about whether these large investments provide benefits commensurate with the costs 🥇❤🇮🇩😘🥰

@@airlandmarine Thanks! It's not just the environmental aspect. The US military works for... the US. We have a capitalist system, which means unlike Russia, we can't just order industries to change over and start producing ammo. It has to make economic sense for the manufacturers to spool up production, which they're not going to do without guaranteed contracts. So that stuff takes time and policy to work out, meanwhile the demand for ammo persists. If you want some real fun, ask the other guy whether or not we should be using DU rounds. It will be amusing to see what kind of simple-minded answer pops out.

Given that the DShK heavy machine gun can trace its birth back to 1938 I guess you could say that it shared a similar path to that of the BMG. Pricey, you think? Putting your gas station up in the air is always going to be way more expensive than filling up on the ground.

Over the long run, it helps save on runway and tarmac abuse(lighter aircraft), allows military aircraft to prep for takeoff faster, and allows military aircraft designs to be lighter

@josephdestaubin7426 Yes, it's certainly not a cheap. And they don't have a shop where you can top up on snacks! 😉

@@anonboy7314 I'm pretty sure it's the design considerations that make the decision. There's no question that we can build a plane to go all the way around the planet. But if you're gonna have to carry bombs or missiles and you're gonna have to fight an air war, your jet had better not look like the Spruce Goose.

@@airlandmarine I am conversant with both systems, but it's always jarring when they're mixed. FYI I did like the video - I didn't watch it hoping to get wound up by mixed units...
