I learned a long time ago that if I can control my spending of cash.I can do the same with credit cards. Anecdotal evidence for sure but In my case it is also a trueism.

Shoutout to the two examples, both who clearly have significant other problems(the woman who wanted to be a stay at home mom in 2021, and the guy spending money on dates), and not actually Credit Card problems.

I average about $160 per month on cash back on my credit cards. Everything that can be charged without an extra fee goes on it, including many bills like electric bill, car, home insurance, mobile phone, internet etc. I get 5-6% on a few things, 3% on most things, and at least 2% on everything else. The balances are always paid off often before the statement even closes. $160 per month is not life changing but it's not insignificant either.

But we don’t pay interest fees if we pay it monthly right?! I didn’t understand when he said he always payed it off but he payed interest every year.

The part that always loses me is when they say "they werent taught this in school." I'm a math teacher. We teach it. We've been teaching it for decades. It's those word problems that are boring and nobody like and they groan when they have to do it. which word problems? "Erik buys a car at 5% for $10000, in 3 years...." "How much will Erika have in retirement if she invests $2000/year for 35 years..." etc, etc... It was boring then. And it's boring now. You know what's not boring? Retiring with $2.2millions dollars with only contributing $209/month at 9.2% S&P returns, starting at age 21. $209/month? That's $52/week. Cut out ONLY your $5 starbucks 5days/week (NOT SEVEN days) and you're halfway there. Cut out ONE weekly Chipotle trip and you're done. For life. Is it that hard limit starbucks to weekends and cut out a burrito once a week to retire a millionaire? Did they teach this in school? Yes. This exact example. You get what you put into your education. You reap what you sow.

First of all I get about 300-500 bucks back each month . And about 10,000 miles a month. I spend 5-15k average a month I get perks I used to do cash only never got free stuff had to pay extra . I pay off all my cards each month. You’re using your card for stuff you get anyway . Like I said I was a cash only guy . But you don’t get free stuff

Just keep your money outta the banks and invest in precious metals...banks will fall and poof they will have "bail ins"...that's where they will keep your money and invest how they see fit with it and give you a certificate..

In Greece you have to spend 30% of your pretax income with a credit OR debit card. Otherwise you get an extra 22% tax on the amount you did not spend. Spending in doctors it counts twise. So when i pay for a doctor i get 44% cashback + 2% from credit card. 46% cashback. I budget the money i have to spend separately and when i go to the doctor i can invest the amount i paid him (as i budget with 22% in mind.)

Just what I needed to hear….I am finally debt free but because I had a bad debt score and I was put on debt review, is it necessary to get the debt clearance certificate or it’s not worth it? I am not looking to take up any debt in the near future

Unfortunately most people get a credit card and don’t think about paying statement balance. They pay minimum payment until it’s maxed out. And that’s a holy grail of credit company. That’s how they make money. With high spenders that spend a lot and pay off they still make money off the merchants and have less risk of default on payments. Even with higher annual fee these cards offer more to cover this fee plus rewards. The key is pay statement balance a couple days before due date. Print or have email confirmation too. I had that issue with capital one they took out money from my bank before due date and posted it later. Charged interest. It was easy to fix but if I was busy with work it could be overlooked.

If you are disciplined with finances then credit cards are way to go. About 7 years ago I decided to part away from cash and debit card. I put all my budget spending on credit card and paid it off every month. And yes two times I didn’t pay my statement balance on time and got hit with hundred something interest fee which both times I was successful talking to them to waive it because it was honest mistake I set up payments and forgot to click it to process. Other than that annual fees even on amex at 695$ pays for itself if you utilize what they offer. Flying using miles and paying $12 per trip is awesome. I had a trip in January from Florida to Colorado to go skiing with my 2 kids it cost me less than 600$. That’s 3 airlines tickets, 3 nights in the resort, car rental. And I had to pay for gear rental and food for cash

This doesn't make sense. I enrolled in Ramsey's financial peace University because i truly needed it. And it TRULY helped us out and made such a difference. But we're supposed to learn AND grow. So i took these habits. Realized that i can now use credit cards again, treat them like cash if it's not in your account don't use it and now I'm reaping the rewards...of points and miles. Financial peace was NECESSARY foundation for me but your supposed to build on foundations. I have several credit cards and I am now working to get my Venture X/Savor Bifecta. Nothing changes. Pay it off in full every month.

So you can be in debt and possibly pay interest in order to not have a lower deposit on renting an apartment LOL. Do you people not realize you NEVER get your interest back but without a score and paying more deposit you get the whole deposit back. Which one is cheaper?

The plain simple fact of the matter is that all merchants raised their prices in order to cover the fees they must pay the credit card companies. If you are not using credit cards then you are leaving money on the table. You should use credit cards and claim whatever perks they offer - mileage points, cash back, whatever. I get cash back - a small recouping of money I paid to the credit card companies via the merchants. But you must be responsible - pay the balance off each month and never give the credit card companies a chance to charge you interest. Use of credit cards is like a free short term loan. Also, the monthly statements makes it easier to track where you are spending your money.
@donjohnson1416

LOL!!!! Not everyone can pay them off every month so they would pay interest and it would be worse than the "raised prices" over 70% of people carry debt those are the people Dave is trying to help.

For that klarna, George, my issue is I HAVE the money but it's only an online purchase for the foreseeable future. So why is it not a good deal to switch it into $150 payments 4x instead of just dropping the $600. Personally, though, I hate buying online, I prefer to buy it in a brick and mortar store if at all possible. Therein lies the issue. Best case scenario, it shows up at best buy in a couple weeks. WORST case, it could take 1-2 years to see it in a store. I've already waited almost a month but it's STILL not sold in any physical stores yet. I'm riled of waiting, honestly, 2nd if I buy it online I have to pay more sales tax than waiting for it to show up in the nearby state that has less sales tax. To me, it's NOT about impulse buying, per se, it just seems like an interesting payment option as I already have the money for it, why not just spread it over 6 weeks? Just a curious thought ;)

For a network with generally conservative leaning values. This podcast sounded very very liberal. I feel that you wanted to almost victimize the caller/contributor, who lost a whole $80 in the market. Whatever happened to due diligence, research, being responsible for your actions. The blame was entirely shifted to Robin Hood because it looks nice, is easy to use and is opened to the masses. I don't use the app, I trade with others. When I was in my 20s I had to call a broker to buy stocks, and guess what, even then I lost when Midway games went broke. Sure I lost money, I could afford to lose it. I didn't call up my broker or firm and blame them. You could also find people that invested and made money for a more balanced show.

Turbo tax does try to charge you for Deluxe but a tax professional i person was changing me $180 to file for me. He didn’t do it electronically only by mail so my refund was delayed. Turbo tax is really not perfect but you need to realize how much it costs anywhere else. Idk how to file taxes without the service.

The only reason to have a credit card is convenience. What I mean? Buying something online or for gas because the station doesn’t accept cash. Like No cash checkout in the express lane. But you need to pay at right after you swipe.
