Thank you for sharing. Love your stories. I’m glad your videos pop up as recommendations. I just got home from training with my guy dog. Everything that they taught me about the airport I did have to go through my guy. Dog was very very good throughout the whole five hour plane ride. We are a new team. We’ve only been together for one month.😊🤍👩🦯

@colleenconnor83202 ай бұрын
We are doing OK and I wish I had more time for videos and stuff! Joplin is now nine years old and is still guiding with me and we have been through a lot. She is my whole world, and really the most nerve-racking and sort of grief thing I’m worried about is retirement, etc. I hope you fully embrace your journey and, you get out of it what you put in. Joplin has been a steady and calm companion, and there are no words to express the relationship. Best wishes and let me know how it goes!

Thank you for sharing your journey. I am currently preparing to go in a couple of weeks. Is there anything you could help me any advice because I am so nervous and excited I have never been guided by a guide dog and I am just full of curiosity. I love your personality. You are so funny and awesome.💜👩🦯👻
@colleenconnor83202 ай бұрын
The best advice I can give is to fully embrace the experience and don’t try to do other work or anything during that time. You have to get up really early so unless you’re naturally a 5 AM riser it’s a bit of a rough gig. Be open to getting to know your dog and things not being perfect right away. Also, don’t try to use any remaining vision to help the dog or steal yourself off course. Try to go “as blind as possible if that makes sense. That way you can start trusting the dog and eventually it will feel like you are flying.
@Blindbaddie2 ай бұрын
@@colleenconnor8320 thank you so much for responding. I would have to get used to waking up early, but I can’t wait to feel that harnessed in my hand and yes, you do make sense when you say go as blind as you can because I have remaining vision, but I do not depend on my vision at all, I’m so excited. I have a lot more questions. I’ll thank you for sharing your journey. I love to see them.👩🦯💜😁

Why reads this screenreader so terribly fast?
@BlindIC3 ай бұрын
Just because most blind or vision people are used to listening to automated voices all day. To navigate my phone and Internet and computer, so I listen to it a little faster than normal speech. What’s interesting? Is that most blind people listen to it very very fast And I can’t process audio that quickly. I hope to do another one of these and I will try to slow my screen reader down and hopefully be able to provide transcripts. Thanks for comment!

Great to have another video from you Colleen. I love your story time. Please do more in the future. Also, could you make some about your public transit interactions when you have had Joplin. Your voice impressions were hysterical. I’m sure that man thought he was helping you by taking you to the elevator but it was probably really scary to be grabbed from behind like that, especially by a man, and then forced to walk along with him.
@colleenconnor83203 жыл бұрын
Yes, I should definitely contrast that with some of the stories I’ve had with Joplin. As you can imagine it mostly involves people paying too much attention to her and not enough attention to what I’m saying. Thanks for your patience during quarantine, I hope to have more videos soon :-)

I am glad to see you both back on the channel! I am so glad that you both are safe and can’t imagine how scary both of the situations you described must have been! I am honestly always nervous about getting on escalators with my dog even though she absolutely loves them! Also Covid boredom is definitely a thing! I know my girl is extremely bored and I think she was looking forward to coming back to University except for the fact that we are pretty much still at home except when we go to the one building on campus where all three of our classes are and two are in the same room.
