Anyone know of other tracks on which he plays electric piano other than African Songbird?

The epic “African Herbs” track. Strangely on the African Sun LP it also includes piano, but on the Soweto reissue just the electric piano. “Black and brown cherries” also worth checking out.

@@hotplateuk And not to mention 'Blues for a Hip King', one of his very best also with Basil “Mannenberg” Coetzee. kzbin.info/www/bejne/d4iWcnaNpJhkpbM

@@Dogan1960Thank you for that info. I have honestly lost count of the number of times I’ve played and listed to Blues for a Hip King, since the early 80s. Few would know that it is a dedication to the late King Sobhuza II of Swaziland (now ESwatini), the longest reigning monarch in modern day politics. I know that much because I live in Swaziland. In the 70s Abdullah Ibrahim stayed in Swaziland. It’s a beautifully done piece all through. It opens with a solo by the man himself. This is followed by a solo on the horn section (t. sax) by the inimitable the late Basil “Mannenberg” Cotzee, then trumpet by Blue Mitchel. There is a come back by Mannenberg, this time displaying his virtuoso. Say listen! He gives to Buster Cooper, who is prolific on trombone. It ends with Abdullah, yes indeed, on electric piano. Perhaps my being Swazi, and the fact that this was a dedication to a Swazi King, very hip at that, has me biased. Disabusing myself of all that, this is still a beautifully rendered Afro-jazz piece, with a great line-up.

And Abdullah is still going strong -90 years old this October, inshallah..

Wondering why in this track’s credits the inimitable tenor saxophonist, Basil “Mannenberg” Coetzee, is not acknowledged. His horn is so distinct as not be missed. Bar that omission, on this track, with Abdullah Ibrahim on electric piano, here’s my suggestion. Take a drive on an open road, to nowhere in particular. A riveting musical experience and edification for a good 20 mins, and some odd, awaits. To say that it exudes something of an ethereal beauty about it, is no understatement. Here’s to you.

Could you upload “waiting in vain”? Thanks in advance and yes, This is a different mastering of “Jamming” that appears only on the 1982 Box Set. I’m not sure, but I’ve read that the mastering were destroyed after the box set came out in 1982, so this mix is unique and I don’t think that you will ever find it except for the box set. Hope I help you

True dat! The dub version I stumbled across on a Niney Observer dub compilation. I’m amazed that after nearly 40 years, two dub versions from the Man In The Hills sessions get released for the first time? I can only assume that these versions must have been produced by Jack Ruby but never released as a 7”. The label artwork I did myself, to catch the eye of Burning Spear fans.

The very best in BLACK HISTORY, shit they're still up to date not teaching in our schools around the world, especially our so-called h.b.c.u.'s, what the fuck, seriously ? are you gonna lose funding for it ? so sad...Keep preaching Mr Winston Rodney... we're listening and passing it on, trust me, we've been listening since you started in the 60's....mofo's don't get it but most do, better believe it...
