I understand that this was 2 years ago but i do have a question... Ik that the center judge is the highest black belt rank of the 3 judges and they are in the center but im wondering... what does the second highest black belt rank in the ring judge and what does the lowest black belt rank of the 3 judges judge
@CarsonClewsATA
@CarsonClewsATA 17 күн бұрын
As long as they hit the minimum rank requirement (center judge must be one rank above highest rank competitor, corner judges must be equal to highest rank competitor), the judges ranks don't matter beyond that. It is simply what seat they are in, what position they are assigned! I hope that answers your question!

Ok bc im doing my own tournaments online so its ll pretend and i randomized a 10th degree an 8th and a 5th degree as the judges... so its obvious that the 10th degree will be the center judge im just wondering about the other 2 lol

The issue of not punching to the face is a great hinderance in learning blocking. With all the modern rules of TKD it has taken the the art into something that will probably not be able to be used for self defense. ATA was never designed to be a "sport", but an art of self protection. The ATA of today couldn't hold a candle to when it was practiced in the 1970's. If ATA students are offended by my opinions, i apologize, but these are the cold brutal facts.

@@chrflexify how in fucks name could Amercan Tkd Assoc be founded in korea.You mean TKD was founded in korea when there was only 1 ruleset which allowed headpunching,the korean master that began the ATA was an ITF master when he came to the states in the 60s and tjen switched to WTF which is why the ATA uses those ridiculous rules.

As a 1st degree recommended out of Salem MO, these tips do work greatly. Moving through the ranks I would sometimes find myself locking my base knee with a linear upper torso. Another thing while chambering for a sidekick at least is engaging the obliques.

Okay question, if you punch the other person's chest protector but you're behind them is it technically a blind technique? I wouldn't say so bc yk that the chest protector is there but my one younger instructor always calls that a blind punch

I was hoping you could clarify about the competitor being out of the ring. I thought the person outside the ring could not score a point as long as the foot outside the ring was touching the ground.
@CarsonClewsATA

Great question! For ATA tournaments, if they have one foot in bounds, it is an anchor. They can still score. One of the "curses" of ATA tournaments is that grown adult men who are 6'+ tall are sparring in a 15' by 15' ring. So the one foot inbounds allows us to counteract that. Again, great question!

@@CarsonClewsATA How interesting a detail. I've been sparring in ATA since 1993 and went to Worlds twice, but always heard that at moment of your strike, your out of bounds foot had to be either in the air or back in bounds for point. I had not heard before that you could score with a foot planted outside... how many point did I lose out on :)

Why are children getting black belts. What??
@CarsonClewsATA
@CarsonClewsATA 2 жыл бұрын
Actual question or criticism? I'm going to assume actual question, and answer: A) The earlier we develop muscle habits, the more likely they will lock in quickly and carry on forever. I would prefer my 9 year old to understand footwork, core rotation, and timing before middle school, rather than wait until they are 12. B) If a student trains for 5 years, develops those muscle habits, and stops training, but ends up in a critical situation, the muscle programming that happened from age 4-9 will still be there in the, say, 18 year old body. The "in order to get a black belt, you must be able to kill an adult attacker" is something only internet trolls say. Professional instructors of both traditional martial arts (TKD, Muay Thai, BJJ) and real-time combatives (Krav, Boxing) know what's happening and encourage the ranking system to mark the progress of children's muscle development and tournament competition. Again, this response is assuming this is an actual question. I hope this helps!
