I played the slow Trombone version of this in Stage Band in the 1970s. What I love here is not just the update to a modern jazz style, but the way Alpert takes it full Dixieland by the very end. A masterpiece. I am enjoying rediscovering Herb Alpert. Look at his wiki page, he's a wonderful human being. And if you need cheering up, put on his Tijuana Taxi, a song so ridiculously cheerful and bouncy that I sometimes laugh with happiness listening to it.

Herb is just INCREDIBLE here--such beautiful tone and phrasing! You don't have to be a "shredder" to be a great musician as Herb illustrates so well in this tune! WONDERFUL!! Miles Davis said it best: "In music, the notes you DON'T play are as important as the ones you do."
