This is the 2nd time I broke my ankle. I agree with all the tips, except for the stairs…I just gave up on those. Especially long and steep ones…no way I am travelling up/down those. For the comming few weeks I am a groundhog!

Also, consider getting a knee scooter. It was a life saver for me and they're not very expensive. They're only around $150 on Amazon and are a lot easier than crutches. Also, get a chair for the shower and as well as a handicapped parking placard.

I haven't walked for 3 weeks since an inversion injury happened to my left foot. I've been contemplating to crawl as well because I want to use the bathroom already. Any tips?

suffered a bimalleolar fracture requiring surgery 6.5 moths ago. Have a lot of metal in my ankle. After surgery . I crab-crawled up and down stairs on my backside for over 3 months. That and ‘“crutching” ’ around are Great exercises for building upper body strength. It was winter By the time I was ready to walk with a cane. I bought myself a ice pick tip for the cane and a good pair of icers for my boots and went walking. Metal gets cold. Warm wool compression socks helped. Full Recovery takes time. I am slowly weaning off nerve blockers, I can walk for miles but still can’t run, and my proprioception (balance) is still a bit off, but I can feel things improving week by week. My advice. keep at it- keep moving, rest when it hurts, and don’t get discouraged.

I wanted to offer to others that I wished so much that I had thought to cut my daily calories back while I was healing! I gained way too much weight because I ate the same as when I was very active on 2 feet. What a stupid mistake!! Half as active - half the food!

I have just broken my right ankle for the 2nd time in 2 yrs. This time I will require surgery. I’m terrified as I’ve never had any surgery. Omg the tip about the computer chair is pure gold!! Why did none of my professional caretakers tell me about this?? Thank you so much.

I had 4 surgeries. Refused General Anesthesia and had sedation . Nerve blocks are good as well, They kept pushing opiates but the second day post op I just did a Tylenol drip then tablets. The surgery was not scary at all. I did a lot of meditation and leg elevation Careful with foods that cause inflammation .Keep that wound immaculate.

get a knee scooter or something like iWalk as crutches suck! Nobody tells you this!

If you are non weight bearing DO NOT CRAWL. Do not crawl if you have metal in your leg until the bones knit together. OMG.

How long was your cast on I've had a nwb cast on for 3 months and I got it off a couple of days ago my doctor said I was ready to go but I still need my crutches. I have a Physio consult in a couple of days .

@@neskid26 Pressure in the wrong direction can upset a few things depending on the extent of the injury. I would err on the side of caution.
