Spoke with the Forest Service, they are aware there is a problem with people shooting there, but layers of gov't make it hard to get anything done. People are not supposed to be shooting within x distance of a trail, but there no signage to inform that there is a trail there. they can be issued a fine if caught but really no FS presence. gotta think as the weather gets nicer there will be more people shooting out there. maybe mtnbers need to post our own signs in the mean time?

Can you ride e-bikes like surrons?
@bruceargyle2 күн бұрын
No. My understanding is that only class 1 e-bikes are allowed. The Surron is NOT an e-bike under the law, but is an electric motorcycle. In all the trail systems I'm familiar with, Surrons are legal only on trails that allow gasoline motorcycles.

Been riding Cliffrose for several months now. Love the trail system. Not so happy about folks continuing to shoot handguns, rifles, and shotguns within the trail system as little as 50 yards off the trail. Waiting to hear from the Forest Service to see if this practice is allowed.

I had some gnarly mountain bike crashes on this trail back when i rode. My worst was when i was going uphill, and completely worn out. I fell over, did not stick an arm out, and a rock sticking up broke my ribs. I never really got back on or back in shape after that.

Where is the Church Rocks trail head?
@bruceargyle20 күн бұрын
There's no trailhead specific to Church Rocks. You have to take another trail to get there. The Grapevine trailhead and the under-freeway sneak from Coral Canyon are the closest to the Church Rocks loop, but most riders use the Cottonwood Trailhead to arrive from the north via the Prospector Trail. There's full info on all the different paths here: utahmountainbiking.com/trails/churchrk/

Sweet more riding out this way. I didn't even realize there was a new park out there. How did you even come across this info anyway of a new park? Keep doing what you do and keep posting new great stuff.
@bruceargyle2 ай бұрын
I've joined every local trail org discussion page I can find, and I'm constantly watching for any hint of something new. A mention of a trail name I've not heard before; a photo that shows a hill or valley from a new angle; a picture of an excavator that I can localize by the mountain background, etc. I watch for Strava tracks, and as soon as I think I can get wheels on the trail without being an asshole, I'm making plans to ride it.

Great video! How easy is it to find the parking lot?
@bruceargyle2 ай бұрын
It's actually pretty easy, but it won't seem that way as you hit the mile of construction between SR 73 and the trails. The route that will be the "official route" to the "real trailhead" isn't open yet. I'll have a web page ready in a couple of days, but meantime, here's the route: The southern entry is reached via Lewiston Road south of White Hills. Driving south past White Hills, turn off SR 73 to the right, across from Pole Canyon Blvd. The pavement ends quickly. Some riders park here and pedal the rest of the way. Stay westbound on dirt road, generally keeping straight as you pass through a long area of construction. Keep straight when the main dirt road veers to the left (don't follow the painted arrow on the big rock). As you reach the base of the hill, make a right turn and go north a short distance, turning right into the parking area. The entry trail is across from where you pulled into parking.

Much appreciated!! Planning on hitting it tomorrow.

Since it's a DH from 'upper Deer Valley', where would you park to link up these trails? Thanks for riding it, didn't hear a thing from DV about the newest trails!
@bruceargyle4 ай бұрын
Silver Lake Lodge is the nearest parking at Midmountain. But I recommend parking at the bottom and using the city bus service to get uphill (if you don't want to make the climb on the bike). Personally, I'd park in the Mayflower lots and take Rinse Cycle to Humdinger (aka Midmountain Connector, a two-way trail), make a loop at the top (Midmountain, Ripple/Deer Crest etc), and return. TH info here: utahmountainbiking.com/trails/Humdinger/

Bruce's videos are a treasure trove of possible rides, I'd like to hear you narrate instead of music. Many new riders have NO clue where these trails are, even where to park. Your insight is gold after this many years. BST from Levitate toward Sensei is blocked from Sept 9, 2024 til spring for now, but the many trails within are amazing.

Should be good either direction. Depends on which trail you enjoy the most as a DH, northeast Coyote or Lonely Mountain or South Coyote. You can now add Lonely Mountain Traverse plus/minus Stone Giants for a long traverse on the upper front-side.

Lyrics for the songs on the video soundtrack... Learning to Row (based on Tom Petty's Learning to Fly) Well I started out Driving from my home Got a flattened tire But I'm not alone Rigging the raft Get it all tied down We're on our own Long way out of town I'm learning to row Pushing on the oars Shoulders tired And my hands are sore I'm rowing on Passing by the trees Got the oar Bumping past my knees CHORUS Well some say rafts Are a lot of work I do my part Cause I'm not a jerk So I'm on the oars Erwin tells me how Got my line Through the rapids now CHORUS ----- Dodging the Wasps (based on The Rolling Stones' Walking The Dog) Mercy me, what do I see A swarm of wasps, out in front of me Yellow stripes, circling in the heat Buzzing round, while I try to eat Dodge the wasps I'm just dodging the wasps If you're gonna do some rafting I'll show you how to dodge those wasps Slow down, and take a careful look These bugs have got me feelin shook No chance to just enjoy the view Been strung more than a time or two CHORUS Tell me honey, right on the money How's the raft trip goin You know you got no chance, wasps make you dance Now you're gonna take a sting CHORUS repeat 1st verse CHORUS, etc ----- Rafting Woman (based on Fleedwood Mac's Gold Dust Woman) Row on, rafting woman Grip your rowing oars, and hit the hole Raging rapids Better turn your raft into the spray Rafting in the morning Enter on the tongue and go on down Ride the Salmon, pick your line and you'll row til river's end Til the river ends The rapid's starting now Do you know how To dodge all the rocks to get home You'll read the water right Til you take flight Dropping with your raft in a hole Row on, rafting queen Dodging rocks and holes within the rapids Tired arms mess up rowing Better get that raft on down the flow down the flow CHORUS Vocal autro ad lib ----- Rafting on the Salmon (based on Neil Young's Rockin in the Free World) Rumble of the rapids Splashing water in the air Pulling on the oars hard We are rafting there There are rocks and holes in the way ahead But the views on the river are great they said Shoulders tired but I'm rowing on Raft on the water at the break of dawn Keep on rafting down the Salmon Keep on rafting down the Salmon Keep on rafting down the Salmon Keep on rafting down the Salmon White water rafting Not an easy thing Earning every mile For the joy it brings Eagles and osprey in the canyon here Ancient rock forms the gorge I hear Rafting on through the smoky air This is the way we can leave our cares CHORUS Mountain sheep are on the beaches There are chukkars calling out Ponderosa shades the camp site That's what it's all about Rafting on down on a river wild Got a big grin feeling like a child Got a few holes and some rocks to miss Dirty and wet but it's total bliss CHORUS CHORUS

You have a label of Coal Creek but the rapid being run is I believe Three Fords,, that follows right after Wire Fence,, 20 or so miles yet to go from Three fords to Coal Creek
@bruceargyle6 ай бұрын
Not surprised I messed up the labeling. My system -- shoot a quick GoPro of the area on the guidebook map before entering the rapid -- broke down due to laziness and I made a guess. None of the rafters I was with (former river guides with a dozen trips down Deso) caught the error. So, good eye!
@Sailor376also6 ай бұрын
@@bruceargyle No big deal. I've traveled Deso/Gray 6 times now. And to be truthful,, I spotted it because I am a canoer. When the water is high I have twice done the left hand sneak through the rocks. One of those odd times canoes will fit through the rocks, rafts won't. BTW For the record,, You did a great job on the video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
