very nice design and build,but It's too heavy. you guys should pay more attention to lightweight designs.
@planeprint27 күн бұрын
Too heavy compared to what? foam models? You have no idea how much know-how is used to save every unnecessary gram in the design of these models and still get a stable and suitable for everyday use! The weight is absolutely top and is even in the mid-range of comparable conventional models. Or do you mean 3d printed models that fall apart during transportation or in fast flight?
@Rick-ox5yh27 күн бұрын
@@planeprint just compare to your previous designs,ASK14,2.5m wingspan just 1.2kg PLA,I printed two,it flies very well. some other examples: eclipson MODEL BXL,1.5m wingspan,700g LW-PLA eclipson MXS-R V2,1.4m wingspan,800g LW-PLA eclipson MODEL X,2m wingspan,860g LW-PLA 3dlab P51D,1.4m wingspan,776g LW-PLA 3dlab A10,1.56m,1.5kg LW-PLA 3dlab 1.7m B-25J,2kg PLA your 1.5m SEA FURY,2.1kg material,include 1.6kg LW-PLA!! seems you don't pay much attention to the work of other designers,I printed more than 50 models,3dlab,owlplane,pp,titan dynamics,troy's,eclipson,etc. ,none of them fall apart during transportation or in fast flight.
@planeprint27 күн бұрын
@@Rick-ox5yh Unfortunately, if you only compare the wingspan, you don't get meaningful results. The Sea Fury is a powerful aircraft with a lot of volume. You can't do magic with LW PLA either. I don't think much of the construction method with very few ribs inside, these models are too fragile for me. But of course everyone sees it differently.

Truly great work man! Unfortunately I have many doubts about the resistance of the LW-PLA to sunlight in summer. I've already lost a model for this reason and when they start to get so expensive I have serious doubts. Let's hope that 3D printer filament technology progresses in this direction.
@planeprintАй бұрын
Thank you! This is not really a problem with light colors, as the infill of this model (Planeprint P5 construction) is very dense and there is hardly any deformation. Many people use the new Colorfabb LW HT, which is slightly heavier, but the heat problem is no longer a problem.
@creative1978Ай бұрын
@planeprint Thanks for the suggestion, I will try this filament. Keep it up because your work is amazing!

BambuLabs also has an ASA-LW-PLA. Using the white colour, a good sized part was printed and left at our field for several days... in the sun... no effect at all. But, I don't know how it would react when painted with a dark colour and left in the sun.

Yes, it's very easy, the struts have quick-release fasteners and stay on the wing, only two screws need to be loosened at the top.

Can i print it in petg??? I see that the design has to be printed in pla, but i think that petg would be more resistant to ambient temp(sun and summer temps) and maybe crashes....
@planeprint3 ай бұрын
Basically yes, PETG is more difficult to print and in my opinion it breaks faster than tough PLA when hit.
@davidterraza8893 ай бұрын
Yeah, i was thinking in petg because in my airfield the ambient temp can raise over 37C in summer and pla is very sensitive to high temp, it becomes soft and deforms very easily. Moreover, if for some reason i forgot to take the plane out of the car, i can be sure that i have to print it again because it will be an sculpture of modern/abstract art jejejejeje

Is there any way to make the rudder a working rudder ? aka, where would I mount the servo ?
@planeprint8 ай бұрын
Theoretically there would be room for a servo in the front of the fuselage, but with this model a rudder is not necessary and would hardly bring any advantage
@ebg46148 ай бұрын
Do you think it could be strong enough to be discus launched DLG ??
@planeprint8 ай бұрын
No, I would not recommend that. I designed the first prototype exactly for this purpose, with carbon reinforcement and PLA edge bends. But the model is basically not suitable for this and therefore unnecessarily heavy. The fuselage would have to be much longer and the rudder further away. That would add more lead to the front.

You are a incredible designer and engineer, just wish the materials available to print we're at your level ! ;) Take tpu for instance super durable, light weight pla is very weak, it cracks and breaks to easily, Styrofoam is more impact resistance and easier to glue back together and lighter, I think there needs to be more advancement in materials to print.
@planeprint10 ай бұрын
Thank you very much! Yes, it's not easy but 3d printing and especially the materials available are constantly evolving and getting better. You have to work with what you have and try to make the best of it. In the end, it's always the best compromise that counts. But that also applies to classic construction methods such as wood or composite.
