This was a fantastic overview, also kudos on having all the terminals on the relays numbered ! I think I must have a custom start panel ... .from 1988 ... on two 30kw M4276 1200rpm NL gens. I have hours/oilpressure/watertemp gauges, start/stop button, and warning lights for shutdown sensors. Inside there are 5 timers/contactors, your video and the manual show 4. The port gen stopped firing the relay sequence. Is there a way to manually trigger the sequence or deduce what is keeping the sequence from firing ?

Thanks for creating these videos. As a new owner of a Northern lights generator ( never had a generator before ) I need help in maintaining my generator, The Videos are a great compliment to the Operators Manuals for owner maintained boats

Excellent video! I do have a problem: i have a 8kw northern lights non-marine generator. I have serviced the generator by changing the oil and filter, chanfed the fuel filter, changed the air filter. The generator has coolant, oil and a clean air filter. The generator over heated, i was told to replace the thermostat - i did. The generator will start and run as long as i hold down the glow plug switch (a tupe 1panel) i was told to remove the water temp safety switch then was told to remove the oil pressure safety switch. I did both of those things, no change since i have to hold down the glow plug switch to make the generator run. Currently I've removed the thermostat and reconnected the safety switches - but same result. I need help! Please!

“Hi Bob, When you say “remove the water temp safety switch and then the oil pressure safety switch,” did you actually remove these switches from the engine, or just remove the wires from each of the switches? Also, it’s important to note that your engine is equipped with senders and safety switches, so we need to make sure that you disconnected the switches, and not the senders. It’s also important to note that the safety switches are there to protect thee engine from damage, and they should only be disconnected for troubleshooting purposes, and only if you have a method of verifying oil pressure (a mechanical gauge), and engine temperature (a non-contact infrared gun). You could indeed have a safety switch that is malfunctioning and causing this behavior from the generator, but it could also be a couple of other things causing the trouble as well. If you are able, please call our Seattle headquarters during normal business hours and ask to speak to Scott Dyball and he will be happy to help you troubleshoot the problem further. What are the trouble shooting indications that seawater pump needs replacement versus the raw water pump?

The seawater and raw water is the same pump. The only other water pump is the fresh water circulating pump. The indication for the need to change is if you see any water dripping out of the pumps opening, which means its seal is starting to leak.

Will be good to see the position of the IMPELLER 😀 LAST MONTH A GENSET GUY INSTALLED THE IMPELLER AT WRONG ROTATION DIRECTION.. result= impeller totally broken. Is it clockwise or counter clockwise rotation ? Thanks for upload this Video bro 😃👍👍💫

John Deere block at the beginning of the video. Worked at ADE for six years and tested thousands of units in the test cell as well as field service. From Yanmar, Komatsu, Deere and others...worked with great people and enjoyed working for Harold Johnson until his passing and his widow sold the company. Once marinized NL generator or Propulsion unit is born...🤘🤘🤘
