Yep, the MTBers were being stupid and inconsiderate. I've had a MTBer crash into me while he was speeding around the inside of a wide left blind curve where I was walking! Luckily for me, I'm an aggressive defender of my friends and I knocked him off his bike before he could plow through me and get to my following friends. I've had countless encounters with stupid and inconsiderate MTBers while riding my MTB on trails. Some resulted in collisions. There are just a few rules in MTB, but they are clear and they are all about safety, courtesy, and trail access/preservation. And anybody with half a brain would act in accordance to the MTB rules even if they had never heard about them.

This is just the reality of multi-use trails. When I'm riding my bike, I'll run into hikers walking 3-4 abreast completely blocking the singletrack frequently so I totally understand your position. It's usually when they're having a conversation with someone, hence why they'll be next to them. Depending on what I'm riding, I'll give a courtesy ring/honk when coming around blind features just to give whoever/whatever in the road ahead of me time to think and act accordingly.
@finder2267

sure, about as a rider you will agree that uphill traffic has the right of way. and those descending multi-use trails need to depend with consideration. I encounter the same things but I don't call names or make blanket statements about how ill-informed a community of trail users is. They have every right to be there as I do. Heck, last week I encountered four motos on a hiking trail while on a run. There are literally signs at every entrance stating that these are unauthorized vehicles. Should I make a blanket statement that all Moto riders are dumb and have no place on the trail? No! it is just not the case. Same trail system I have Motos come from behind at high speed without saying hello. Back to the point. Tommy T needs to have a better perspective before he makes blanket judgments about other trail users.

@@finder2267 Patience goes a long way. I think in this case the adrenaline was speaking for him since he almost went off trail. He certainly had an opinion about them which was not unfounded. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt in this case. Personally, I would of just honked and stopped without pulling over and let them go around me. P.S. After watching again, I believe he was talking about that particular group of riders and not generalizing.
@finder2267

@@furleyforever I Completely agree. As cyclists (mtb'rs) we are more acquainted with trail use issues. Personally, I would much rather be positive than negative. When I talked about perspective It is something you can only see from experience and practice. Perhaps there was debris on the trail and the rider to the right made a poor line choice (visa-versa.) It is the same considerations we give when a slow vehicle is in front of us. The knee-jerk reaction is to criticize. The perspective difference from motorcycling, truck, car, and bicycling to walking or running is dramatic. The reality is it doesn't matter. just wait your turn and go around, "patience" as you said goes a long way. while hate ruins your day.

This cuts both ways. I often experience motorcycle riders riding two wide. What you are not taking into account is perception. This differs from person to person. However, bench-cut trails direct sound into the valley, not down the trail so much. The result is as anyone with an ounce of logic would expect, sometimes things are much closer than you thought and you have little time to react. Also, consider your speed vs a cyclist. BTW: CA state law says motorist yeild to cyclist. That does not stop on fire roads.This could have easliy been a hiker or runner as a cyclist. Bottom line, no one was right here, not you, not the cyclist. share the trail and ride safe! or we all loose.
@chipm2544
@chipm2544 11 ай бұрын
That is a dumb argument you have. You are making this a we vs them. This applies to drivers, riders, stay right. Even more important on a blind curve. There was 1 motorcycle that was 1 motorcycle wide on the right (correct) side of the road. In the USA & many parts of the world we drive, ride on the right. Do that, & it decreases risk of a collision. It’s the right thing to do, the considerate & courteous thing to do.

I disagree. The moto was doing everything right. The pedalers were acting foolishly. On top of that, they didn't even acknowledge the moto with a thank you, hello, or even the briefest eye contact. The pedalers completely mishandled every aspect of that encounter.
@finder2267
@finder2267 11 ай бұрын
@@jimwing.2178 Thanks for making my point. If they didn't not acknowledge, this is an indication of speed. You are going uphill at maybe 5mph, meanwhile, the Moto is moving at 15-20mph. do the math. This is really simple stuff. Perhaps, go throw a leg of a bike and do the same ride. You will see things from a different perspective.

He got to Heaven 7 complained & GOD asked him what he expected after he was sent a COP to tell him to go, a GUY IN A BOAT after the flood started & a HELICOPTER after that, all of which he turned down because GOD was going to save him. GODS answer was ""What about the COP, BOAT & HELICOPTER that I sent???? WE ARE ALL A PART OF MOTHER NATURE, like it or not!?!? My last ""WRONG SIDE"" ended with a broken femur because even though there was plenty of time for me to GO TO MY LEFT, my brain & body JUST WOULD NOT, so as he struck the front wheel, the bars slammed my thigh & the real BUMMER was that I couldn't' get up and hit his crying ass!!!

Motor or not, two wheels or four: RIDE RIGHT when you can't see around a corner. Good on you for correcting them without cussing them out. They knew they were wrong. You showed a lot of restraint and I hope I could do the same in that situation.

They look like total beginners. Experienced mountain bikers don't spend much time descending dirt roads. But, they should have been ready to yield to uphill riders, hikers, horses, cars, strollers, and chipmunks. Trail etiquette hasn't exactly kept up with mountain bike sales over the last 20 years or so.
@jwj8201

Total beginners typically don't go the spandex route, but these days with MTBs priced about the same as a two-stroke, I'm sure some rich carpet scratchers thought they needed to look like a dork in order to go biking properly. My guess is they are XC riders and this isn't even an MTB trail system. Just cruising fire roads on public land quite possibly. If they are too long into the ride they could be on autopilot by this point. Not excusing it, but that's my guess on how semi-experienced riders could ignore loud pipes coming up the hill. Before replies to me for making fun of the spandex sissy's, I'm a long distance road biker, and you don't need to dress like an aerobics teacher to comfortably ride 80 miles in a day. I only make exceptions for high profile races or qualifiers. Have a little dignity and throw some athletic shorts over the tights. I proudly say this at every group ride when the topic comes up... and for some reason I have no friends.

No room and lots of blind corners, be careful. I have been off the road to avoid on coming traffic and bikes on my side. The most u need to watch for and hard to see is hikers, they move slow and even tho u can see the road ahead, as u r moving they will be behind a bush, I hope that makes sense. Ride safe, there is always a time and place to twist the throttle.
