Lets do some math here, assuming the water is around 15° celsius, and is similar to sea water, the steel chains would show signs of decay around the 6 month mark, considering sonic can break pure, fresh metal just by rolling and jumping, i assume sonic would be able to break free himself around the 1 year mark
